Hello to all those who have signed up for the October 19th Get Moving Tucson events.  If you've received this email, we have your registration -- thank you for signing up!!

We still have the rest of the week for additional registrations, but right now 1128 of you have signed up, 294 in the Tucson Lifestyle 5k, 78 in the Cox Charities one mile, and 756 in the TMC A-Mountain half-marathon.  A whole bunch of little kids are signed up for the free mile, but we also have 7 folks over 75, including a wonderful role model in Lorraine Johnson at a spry 83!

Below is the War & Peace-length document that we promised, with all the race weekend details on topics such as schedules, packet pick-up, race-day parking, the Gabe Zimmerman Triple Crown, the course, and more.  At the bottom is the course map.

If you know anyone who wants to volunteer, we'll put 'em to work at registration and other race morning help.  Have them email Tia at tia@runtucson.net

We'll keep updating the SAR race page and the SAR facebook page -- and we'll keep sending out pre-race tweets.

Do you have friends and family who want to join you in the half, 5k, or mile?   They can Register Here online through Thursday, then in person on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

If you have any questions, please contact me raccetta2@cox.net.

--Randy, on behalf of Tia and the gang at SAR!

If you get a chance, please support our great sponsors!  Without them, there's no race!

Please do not bring pets to the event - and do not leave them in your car!!

TIMING

Please put your bib number on the front of your shirt using the pins provided at registration. Do NOT cut or mangle your bib!  Greg Wenneborg and Roadrunners Timing is our official timer, and he will time the race with the IPICO system.  At this writing, 5k runners will wear a bib tag, while half-marathon runners will wear a shoe tag.

Half-Marathoners -- Greg asks that all half-marathoners visit the timing tent on Sunday morning before the race to pick up your shoe tag in order to receive a time.  He says that only runners with shoe tags or bib rings will receive a finishing time.

NOTE: All official results, all cash prize money, and all age-group awards will be by "gun time."

NOTE: All late starters will receive the gun time as their official starting time.

Post-race festivities

Tucson Medical Center will host a sponsor tent with all sorts of giveaways.   We'll have a ton of TMC water bottles to give away!

2-EEE The Clown will be foolin' around with balloons and face-painting, while Cox Charities will host a jumping castle for the kiddos.

Our friends at the Cortiva Institute will be on hand for free massages (yup, that's a pun).

Looking for a job?  New sponsor Afni will be hand out water bottles and our friends at Dan Kalm State Farm will be able to provide information on insurance.

Individual packets of Emergen-C will be at the finish line

Thanks to Rincon Market and Johnny Gibson Market, we will provide chocolate milk to all finishers.

Some of the race director's University of Arizona students at the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship will be on hand to talk about their new business ventures.  A few of the student teams are seeking feedback from runners and walkers on their venture ideas, so please stop by and talk with them!

FitKidz Mile: Hosted by Cox Charities and Tucson Medical Center and open to all ages and abilities, this free one mile will take place at 7:45.  Everyone must register, so be sure to sign up!

Photos:  We have a team on hand to take facebook-based photos.

Finisher Medals: All finishers in the half-marathon will receive a commemorative medallion at the finish line.

Bathrooms: There will be plenty of port-o-lets on the west wall of the downtown library, plus a hand sanitizing station.  There will also be a port-o-let on the half-marathon course, down by the 9.5 mile mark, near the big medical and water station.  We are very thankful for Waste Management's sponsorship of our events.

GABE ZIMMERMAN TRIPLE CROWN

There are 479 registrants in the 2014 Gabe Zimmerman Triple Crown, raising $5,000 for Child and Family Resources.  By our records, 322 people have participated in both the TMC Meet Me Downtown Night Run and the TMC Saguaro National Park Labor Day Run -- pretty awesome!

We will have the Gabe Zimmerman completion award in a separate tent at the Get Moving Tucson race.  We will have a list for you to mark off your name when you pick up your special finisher's medallion.  Every Triple Crown participant can pick up their free shirt at the Gabe Zimmerman tent if you have not done so already.

KEY THINGS TO KNOW

Volunteers: Special thanks to all of our friends from the SAR Board of Directors, members of The Workout Group, the UA's Wildcat Running Club, the cross country teams from Sahuaro, St. Augustine, and Catalina High Schools, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Child and Family Resources.  We can always use more folks out on the course cheering for you and making sure you go in the right direction, so please send any volunteers our way!

Spectators: The course is open to all spectators.  We ask that spectators follow traffic laws and be careful if on bicycles (for instance, no cars on the closed roads, including A-Mountain), but we'd love to see all your friends and families out on the course cheering for you!

Weather: Race day is supposed to be clear with start-time temperature of 65 and 78 by 10:00 am.  Wear a hat and sunscreen!

Certification: Thanks to course measurer Dave Hill, the half-marathon is a certified distance, with USATF sanction number 14-48-524.  The 5k is accurate, but not certified.

Bag Check: There is no public bag check.  Please do not leave your bags at the start/finish area.  There is plenty of nearby parking, so please keep your race bags at your vehicles and not laying around the race site. Tucson Police Department and Pima County Sheriff reserve the right to remove all unaccompanied bags.

Race Starting Line: As often the case with races put on Downtown, we have a small space to work with.  All 5k and half-marathoners will start facing west on Pennington at Stone, right by the big green shamrock.  The first 1/4 mile is a counter-clockwise loop around the Downtown library, then everyone will head east on Pennington to Sixth Avenue. This start will be crowded, so please be careful.  We will need to make room for the front pack as they loop back onto Pennington.

Course Safety: Please stay within the marked course at all times.  Tucson Police Department and Pima County Sheriff will be providing road control, Trafficade will set the barricades, Rural Metro will provide two ambulances (one at the finish and one at the medical/aid station at the 9.5 mile mark).

Tucson Ham Radio Society will have volunteers along the course, and Tucson Medical Center will provide two medical aid tents (one at the finish and one at the 9.5 mile mark).

There will be six distinct water stops in the half-marathon (at the 1.5, 3.1, 6.5, 7.5, 9.5, and 12 mile marks).

The ambulances are on hand for medical emergencies only, not for basic transportation -- please note that it is beyond our capabilities to transport you back to the finish line if you are merely tired or blistered.  If you need to drop out of the race, please follow the route back to the finish line (avoiding the timing mats).

Tucson being Tucson, we are not able to close the roads indefinitely, so at about 10:00 am, ADOT and TPD will assess the road closure situation and may ask any remaining athletes to move to the sidewalks -- this is especially important at the I-10 underpass.

Construction: There is no scheduled construction this year.  Hooray for that!

Changing Distance: We can still accommodate you if you want to switch from the half-marathon to the 5k.  If you want to do the 5k, you must notify the volunteers at packet pick-up.  If you want to change to the half-marathon, please bring a check to registration for the additional $30 fee.

Who puts on this race? TMC Get Moving Tucson is part of the Southern Arizona Roadrunners annual calendar of races.  SAR is a member-driven non-profit devoted to promoting health and fitness through running and walking. SAR is one of the leading running clubs in the RRCA, the non-profit that supports local running clubs throughout the country.  Please join our club -- it's only twenty bucks -- and you will get all sorts of member benefits, including race discounts, merchant discounts, and more.

EVEN MORE THINGS TO KNOW

We will have bottles of refreshing chocolate milk at the finish line.  We will have Gatorade and Culligan water out on the course, and plenty of snack food at the finish line from TMC.  Gatorade will be on A-Mountain and at the Santa Cruz Riverpath/Mission water station at 9.5 miles.

The Half-Marathon is part of SAR's Desert Grand Prix presented by the Running Shop.

Aerial Photography: As a special treat this year, we're working on having two drones take aerial photos, one at the "A" on Sentinel Peak, and one at the start/finish line.  We'll let you know more once we finalize details, but we think these will provide some cool photos - a bit closer than last year's helicopter photos!

Technical Shirts:  The giveaway shirt is a technical shirt with a cotton feel in both men's and women's sizing, in purple and in red.  We cannot guarantee sizing, especially late in the packet pick-up process . . . On race day, additional shirts will be available for purchase.

COURSE AND STAGING INFORMATION

The Half-Marathon Course: the map is below and a detailed description of the half-marathon course can be found at www.azroadrunners.org

- Please don't wear headphones -- it is dangerous to not be able to hear when running anywhere other than a treadmill.  According to RRCA insurance regulations, we are required to ask that you not wear headphones.

-  As you head up and down A-Mountain, please stay to the right - do not cut the tangents on the 2-way stretch of road.  The same applies on the brief out-and-back on the Santa Cruz Bikepath - keep to the right.

 - Trafficade manages our barricade plan, and special thanks, too, to Dave Hill for measuring the half-marathon and 5k courses.

-   Rural Metro and Southwest Ambulance will have ambulances at the finish line and the Santa Cruz River Path entrance at approximately 9.5 miles into the race.

-  Tucson Medical Center is providing two medical tents, at the 9.5 mile aid station and again at the start/finish area.

-   Culligan water will be located at approximately 1.5, 3.1, 6.5, 7.5, 10 and 12 mile marks.

- Gatorade will be supplied at the 9.5-mile mark mark

- Special thanks to Josh at WaterMart for supplying the ice on race day!

-  The Sahuaro High School Cross Country team will be handling the water stations at A-Mountain and the Santa Cruz River Path.

- Students from the cross country team for Catalina High School will be at the 12 mile water station, along the riverpath.

 -
Students from St. Augustine High School and volunteers from Big Brothers, Big Sisters will be on hand at the start/finish line water stations.

- Thanks to volunteers from race beneficiary Child and Family Resources for handling the water station at Mile 1.5

- Special thanks to the University of Arizona Wildcat Running Club who will be out on the course in force to ensure that you go in the right directions and that you are safe.

-   Finally, please note that the Tucson Police Department will make the final determination of the official course closure time -- we will keep the finish line open for every runner, of course, but depending on a host of safety variables, TPD may ask final finishers to move to sidewalks and obey pedestrian traffic laws.

COURSE DETAILS

The 5k Fun Run/Walk covers the same 3.1 miles as the Half-Marathon.  Both 5k and Half-Marathon start together.  See map below.

Note: As you head north on Sixth Avenue, please stay to the right of the road; as you head back south on Sixth Avenue, please stay to the right of the road. Culligan water will be located at First Avenue and First Street. Strollers are allowed on the 5k and One Mile course only. Strollers and walkers -- stay to the right on the route.

No bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, or pets allowed on the course.

NO REFUNDS

AWARDS

Possible $3,800 in Prize Money for TMC A-Mountain Half-Marathon with prize money based on times and placing

* $50 to first overall male and $50 to first overall female; $50 to top overall Master's (Over-40) male and female

* $200 to the top 5 males who break 1:11 and to the top 5 females who break 1:26

* $100 to first male and female member of the Southern Arizona Roadrunners

* Preem award of $200 to first male and female runner to the "A" on Sentinel Peak **

** NOTE: A-Mountain preem prize money is only given if the A-Mountain leader finishes the complete half-marathon in under 1:30 minutes for the man and 1:40 minutes for the woman

You might say that this is too complicated, but we are trying to reward performance and local running.  So, as an example, if a man wins the race overall in 1:11:01 but is second to the "A" he will get $50.  If the first man to the "A" is also the first member of the Southern Arizona Roadrunners, he will win $300.  When in doubt, join SAR!
