Explorations theater kids
Explorations is a multi-genre arts immersion week for students in grades 7-9. In the process of experiencing different kids of performing, visual and literary art, the skills acquired - such as persistence, self-control, curiosity, conscientiousness, grit and self-confidence - are more crucial than sheer brainpower to achieving success. It's a different way of learning. Take the plunge!

In 2013 we  have  some returning favorite artists and some who are brand new to the program. We are excited about some of the new work our artist faculty is up to. Check out our Young Artists Project home page to see Samantha Rund's latest movie info and news about Britt Rynearson at the 36th Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show!

Water World 2013
Join us in learning about life in and at the edge of the Salish Sea in Port Townsend, WA. Water World 2012 April 28-May 3, 2013 fifth and sixth grade students have the opportunity to dive in to the world of marine science. Learn about life aquatic, record your observations through movement, dance and visual art, understand the science behind what you are doing and have a blast at Centrum.
Over the last 38 years, two prevailing ideas have guided programs for young people at Centrum:

(1) Complete immersion in hands-on creative work
and
(2) Having top notch professionals who are actively engaged in their field serve as teachers.

Magic takes place when you put kids, artists and scientists together at Centrum in Fort Worden State Park.
Join us in 2013!

REGISTRATION IS OPEN for the High School Writers' Studio!
This workshop/seminar/literary escapade is designed to push sixteen high-school writers to the next level. Daily prompts and exercises--including some that take advantage of our spectacular surroundings at Fort Worden and others inspired by improv and sketch comedy techniques--will launch us into in-depth discussions about plot, character development, setting, and the other elements of strong narrative prose. This class will sharpen your critiquing skills and help you to produce your best creative writing yet.
 Jennine Capo Crucet
Jennine Capó Crucet leads the class. She is the author of  two books, most recently the story collection How to Leave Hialeah, which won the Iowa Short Fiction Award, the John Gardner Book Prize, the Devil's Kitchen Award for Prose, and was named a Best Book of the Year by the Miami Herald.
A former sketch comedienne and NPR scriptwriter, she's also worked extensively as a writing coach and college advisor for high school students living in South Los Angeles. Capó Crucet now lives in Tallahassee, Florida, where she's an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Florida State University.
