RCC & the Natural Gas Industry
|
|
Natural gas is an essential part of America’s energy mix. Natural gas currently provides almost one-third (29%) of the United States’ energy needs. With increased market share in electrical energy production and improved methods for production and distribution, the Natural Gas industry has grown substantially in the last decade.
By all accounts, demand for Natural Gas will continue to increase for the foreseeable future due to increasing populations, emphasis on clean & renewable energy and other technological improvements.
Reliable Controls continues to provide valuable expertise to our clients in the Natural Gas industry. Our electrical, instrumentation and process control services have supported our clients to achieve higher levels of production, efficiency and safety.
We can provide these services for gas compression facilities, processing facilities and distribution networks:
- Assessment and As-Built Services (PSM Compliance)
- Instrumentation, Electrical and Control Systems
- Process Hazard Analysis
- Subject Matter Experts and Facilitation
- Control Systems
- Design, Integration, Optimization, and “end-of-life” Upgrades
- Instrumentation Calibrations and Assessments
- Pre-operational Testing and Commissioning
- Pre-start-up safety review participation (PSSR)
- Plant Start-up and Ramp-up support
Reliable Controls has developed successful proprietary methods for thorough and efficient verification and validation of plant equipment and instruments. By using these methods, we have found that a plant can be brought to production with a higher level of safety and efficiency due to corrections on issues identified during the assessment process.

For the month of October, we’d like to introduce you to Sami Hindstrom, a metallurgist who joined the RCC team this fall. Prior to joining Reliable Controls, Sami had the opportunity to work with us on two previous projects, and we liked him so well, we just scooped him up!
Sami studied mineral processing at the Helsinki University of Technology and has a degree in Mineral Processing, Electrochemistry and Corrosion. Sami tells us he’s a metallurgist by training, so he likes to play with slurry and get his hands dirty. His background stretches from hosing floors in concentration plants all the way to actually selling grinding plants, so he’s worked on both sides of the table and now finds himself somewhere in the middle.
Being Finnish, Sami started his work in Finland in 1991 , but since then has worked in Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Romania, Armenia, China, Mongolia and most recently in Suriname. He’s no stranger to travel, which is always a valuable attribute for any RCC team member. He told us his favorite part about working with our company is our small-team approach. “We are just like one big family when we’re on a project,” he said, and his “family” had great things to say about him!
"Sami’s biggest strength is that he is a bulldog; when he gets on something, he won’t let go. He might find something that needs attention and tell someone about it, wherein they don’t set it as a high priority, Sami will hound and hound until action is taken. He just won’t let it sit idle."-Ron Pyatt, Director of Commissioning
Sami’s home team is made up of his wife, two boys, daughter and two dogs. He expressed that family is the cornerstone in his life, and proudly shared that his oldest son is studying biology at the university, his younger son is studying to be a wilderness guide and his daughter is in her second year of high school.
When time allows, you can find Sami out hunting with his dogs. “A man, a backpack, a shotgun and the dogs…a week in the woods is the best way to recharge your batteries,” he said.
Sami said he’s inspired by the never-ending journey to learn something new and share what you know, and when we asked him our favorite question, “Do you have any words of wisdom for our readers?” he shared an Albert Einstein quote:
“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” Or, as his granny used to say in knee-deep snow, “Forward step at the time.”

internaltraining
An insight to our methods and success.
The training and development of employees is at the heart of Reliable Controls’ cultural values and industry contributions.
We’ve put a lot of thought into our methods and processes in order to develop a training strategy that will produce maximum results for both the trainee and the company. The approach we have taken and found to be most effective can be characterized best as “Training Ownership,” where the trainee develops their own plan under the guidance of a mentor to achieve goals and gain knowledge and experience.
This approach requires the trainee to have a high understanding of subject matter, clearly defined tasks and the ability to identify and apply training material. Throughout the training process, peers and mentors are available to answer any questions and gear the trainee toward optimal understanding, while encouraging learning through guided hands-on experience.
Once the training process is complete, the trainee presents what they have learned to the mentor, and, where possible, provides one-on-one training to a peer to

solidify their understanding.
The better grasp our engineers and technicians have on the subject matters of this industry, the better our deliverables and client relationships will be. We pride ourselves on reliability and our training methods directly affect our success. Our auspicious approach leads to quality deliverables, resulting in client retention and referrals.
Training Ownership helps employees gain confidence in what they are doing. In our experience, the trainees display appreciation for the opportunity to add expertise to their curriculum. We plan to continue with our current methods of training, adjusting to close gaps when necessary, and encouraging employees to hold themselves accountable for gaining the know-how to demonstrate quality work.
Reliable Controls is happy to take part in producing the next generation of industry experts.

Reliable Controls Corporation has had the opportunity to work with leading edge companies all over of the world, and we are proud of the unique, personal and professional relationships we have built. Working in the global market, multilingual options not only make sense, but are necessary. U.S. Translation has added tremendous benefit to our company in translating our website and technical documents into many languages. A key advantage of working with U.S. Translation is that you can specify a target country, locality and audience to receive a truly accurate translation.
“If I have an electrical power study that is in English, I can submit these drawings/documents to them [U.S. Translation] and specify that the target language is Spanish-Mexico and the target audience is Electrical Engineers in the Power Industry.” – Alex Macha, Director of Plant Automation & Technology
U.S. Translation maintains a database that is capable of learning and storing new words and phrases each time a document is placed through it; this technology, coupled with a network of 4,000 translators spread across the globe and an ease of doing business, has made them a great value to our company and our clients.
U.S. Translation recently took the initiative to highlight Reliable Controls in their Company News & Blog, and we could not be more pleased and proud of the way it turned out. They took the time to clearly understand our company vision and operations. Follow the link below to the article; it’s a great read! We appreciate this partnership and look forward to working more with U.S. Translation in the future!
