| A
Better Understanding of the Modern Wine World by Joe
Brandolo |
|
| Wednesday,
December 15th
The world of wine
has changed dramatically in the last 25 years with the addition of
new technology, flying winemakers, and the rise of corporate
consolidation and takeover. When you enter a store you are invaded
by displays, marketing gimmicks, creatively designed labels, and
promotions. That is the part of the wine experience that needs to
be demystified for you, the consumer. You need to be better
equipped with an education on wine marketing rather than wine
appreciation. After revealing some trade secrets we will discuss
the real regions of the wine world so you have a better
understanding of local varietals that grow in those regions and not
the usual varietals that seem to grow everywhere and anywhere.
We will taste 6 wines, 3
whites and 3 reds that are indigenous to their respective
regions and open you up to where it all started with small farmers
growing grapes that have been grown in their regions for a long
time.
Whites: Sektkellerei Sparkling Gruner
Veltliner (Austria), Gentilini Robola (Greece), Argiolas
Costamolino (Sardinia, Italy)
Reds: Valle Reale Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
(Italy), Dom St Vincent Saumur (Loire, France), Enrique Mendoza
Monastrell (Spain)
