 Facility Renovation Update
February 26, 2011
Greetings!

Phase 1 of the Facility Renovation Project is moving along at an increasingly rapid pace at Barron, Lancaster, and North Salem schools.  Construction trades are continuing to work on the new additions, and renovations have begun on existing school buildings.  Please read on for more details.
New Construction
  • Roofs, second floor slabs, sheetrock, and exterior walls are complete at Barron and Lancaster.
  • Structural steel is nearly complete at North Salem.
  • Masonry work is continuing.
  • Underground electrical has been installed.
Renovations

Renovations to existing school buildings began on Friday, February 18th, after the kids were dismissed for vacation.  The ceilings are open, and new electrical conduits and plumbing lines are being run.  The work is going smoothly and quickly, with no surprises encountered.  When school resumes on Monday, February 28th, renovations will continue with second shift work.

What Happens Next?
  • HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical work in the existing school buildings will be completed during second shifts.
  • Exterior walls, window blocking, and the roof will be installed at North Salem.
  • Interior finish and masonry work on the new additions will continue.

Project on Schedule for All Schools

Some have voiced concern about North Salem School's construction progress at this stage.  Despite the setback from the discovery of the abandoned water tank and the resulting oil in the soil, new construction at North Salem is making excellent progress and is on track for substantially catching up to the other two schools during the April timeframe.  At this point, new construction on the additions will start to enter its final stages as renovations to existing buildings continue to ramp up.
