FEBRUARY SPOTLIGHT

HOW YOGA WORKS: VISSUDHA CHAKRA

This month, as we enter the etheric level of the throat chakra, Vissudha, we leave behind the the balanced middle ground of the heart chakra. The element of air still surrounds us, but now we move into the realm of the subtler element of ether--of vibrations, sound, communication and creativity.

Tibetan Buddhist master teacher Chogyam Rinpoche said, "To be a warrior is to learn to be genuine in every moment of your life." The word Vissudha means 'purification.' This purification occurs as we rid the body of toxins--in the form of lies, negative thoughts about others and ourselves, self-criticism and censorship, and stifling our voice for fear of being seen and heard as our true selves. In the fifth chakra we allow the inner self to come out into the world through our creativity, our voice, and through resonating and pulsating in harmony with others around us.

Join me on Saturday, February 14th for "Express Yourself: Vissudha Chakra." We'll explore the fifth chakra through movement, sound, chanting, and vibration. As we unblock the throat chakra, we'll clear stagnant energy around speaking your truth, asking for what you want, and setting healthy boundaries. Learn to use your voice as a means to bring together your highest thoughts and your heart's desires through creativity.

Next month, we'll explore the sixth chakra--Ajna--at the third eye, and enter the realm of intuition and psychic development.

Come stay warm with us this month--I look forward to seeing you on the mat!

STEPPING UP TO AN OPEN HEART:

INTRODUCTION TO BACKBENDS

WITH JENNIFER CAMPBELL-OVERBEEKE

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH, 2015 1:30-3:30PM

Yoga is a practice of purification towards liberation. In the asana practice of yoga, backbends play an important role in this journey. From a physical standpoint, when approached safely and correctly, back bends mobilize the spine and strengthen the surrounding musculature, and stretch and massage the heart to increase blood flow to energize the body, balancing the perpetual misalignment caused by our sitting culture. Emotionally, backbends encourage patience, compassion and calm perseverance. Energetically, backbends nourish the chakras--especially 3rd chakra (Manipura-seat of self and self confidence) and 4th chakra (anahata- the spiritual center of the heart).

Join Jennifer for this special workshop to learn and incorporate alignment skills that will help you enjoy and take advantage of backbends in your practice. Show up, drop your expectations, bring a smile, the rest will meet you on the mat!

HOW YOGA WORKS
EXPRESS YOURSELF: VISSUDHA CHAKRA
WITH NICOLE NICHOLS
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH 1:30-3:30PM

Join Nicole as our journey through the chakras reaches Vissudha, the throat chakra. Located in the neck at the base of the throat, this chakra is the bridge between our highest thoughts and our heart's desires, and is the center for creative self-expression. Healing the throat chakra allows us to communicate our thoughts and feelings, to ask for what we need, to express our truth without fear of judgment, to set boundaries, to make decisions and to listen deeply.

Join Nicole and explore the fifth chakra--we'll start with sun salutations and flow into a series of asanas and practices that support, open, nurture and awaken Vissudha chakra. As we unblock energy around the throat, the pulsation of life can flow freely, so that the forward-thinking mind may work with the life-stream of the body to facilitate new ways of looking at the and approaching the world. This kind of creativity reveals infinite possibilities.  Participation in the previous workshops is not required--all are welcome!

CANDLELIGHT YOGA & GONG BATH
WITH ALISHA NISSENFELD AND NICOLE NICHOLS
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH, 5:00 - 6:30PM

This special edition of our 5:00pm Sunday evening class with Nicole features chanting, meditation, vinyasa flow, and culminates in a 20-minute extended savasana with a gong bath played live by Alisha Nissenfeld.

Of all the instruments used in sound healing, the Gong is perhaps the most powerful, and the most mysterious. Gong Meditations, also called Gong Baths, are deeply nourishing and restorative. Through the intense vibrations of the sound, the body and mind are able to relax and surrender to the healing energies of the Gong. The Gong vibrates at the same frequency as the body, allowing students to experience deep healing on all levels of being as vibrations pass over and through them--leaving them feeling balanced, peaceful, and light.

During this healing and rejuvenating experience, students will relax comfortably with bolsters and blankets. No water is used in a gong bath; enjoy the experience of vibrations washing over you!

Regular 75/90 minute class pricing applies.
