HAPPY NEW YEAR!
JANUARY 2015 NEWS

"My friend, love is a verb. Love--the feeling--is a fruit of love, the verb. So love. Serve. Sacrifice. Listen. Empathize. Appreciate. Affirm.

Are you willing to do that?"

JANUARY SPOTLIGHT

HOW YOGA WORKS: ANAHATA CHAKRA

This month, our exploration of the chakras reaches the fourth chakra, Anahata--this is where the magic happens! The mid-point in the chakra system, this center is the bridge connecting heaven and earth, it's all about balance, love and relationship. To heal the heart is to join together mind and body, the divine and the mundane, self and other, and to heal the dis-ease of disconnect.

At the third chakra, personal will develops a sense of individualism. If this becomes out of balance, self-centeredness, hostility, and isolation occur, making compassion impossible. We live in a culture obsessed with power, but we are driven by love. The basic right of the fourth chakra at the heart is to love and be loved. This necessary grounding allows us to expand our idea of "me" into a conscious unity with the world around us. Without love, there is no binding force to hold our world together, no integration. The enlightened state has been described as "the realization of the oneness of being." This realization occurs at the heart chakra. Indeed, all asanas are intended to release the mighty knot formed by the subtle body at the heart.

Join me on Saturday, January 17th for "The Mystery of Love: Anahata Chakra," and we'll continue our journey through the chakras with theory, asana and mantra. In this class we will examine the many ways the heart can be accessed, opened and healed, by attending to the most vulnerable and sacred aspects of ourselves. Only then can we drop the protective armor that keeps us bound in the ego, and through understanding, move forward fully and embrace life and love fearlessly, confidently, openly. Participation in the previous workshops is not required--all are welcome!

Next month, we'll explore the fifth chakra--Vissudha--the throat chakra.

I hope your holidays have been wonderful. Wishing you peace, joy, love, and may all your dreams manifest into reality in 2015.

 CULTIVATING A DAILY MEDITATION PRACTICE
WITH ZORA SAVAGE
SATURDAY, JANUARY 24TH 1:30 - 3:30PM

Are you interested in learning to meditate, but have no idea where or how to begin? Join Zora Savage for this special workshop and 4-part follow-up series, and learn the basics of how to build and sustain a daily meditation practice. Once the excitement of the group meditation experience wears off, it can become difficult to maintain a self practice. Zora will guide you through the nuts and bolts of how to build a successful daily meditation practice, including choosing a good meditative seat, breathing and pranayama techniques to quiet the mind, how to deal with the agitation and or dullness that arise in a practice, and keeping the all-important meditation journal (time, days, feelings, obstacles)

Ultimately the best meditation teacher is practice, practice, and more practice! Zora will offer a series of four 60-minute follow up sessions, and each lesson will introduce a new type of meditation (all for beginners), with discussion and group practice as a partially-led meditation. This will serve as the assignment to practice until the next session. Subsequent sessions will start with discussion about experiences with the meditation assignment. This course is designed to help you build a sustainable home practice, so you can truly enjoy the benefits that come from peace of mind.

Initial workshop on Jan 24th: $35
Series of 4 follow-up sessions: $60
