We had a stellar First Anniversary celebration on October 4th! Together we raised $1910.75 in cash, plus $450 worth of much needed shelter supplies to benefit InterAct, and raise awareness and support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Thank you to all who came to celebrate with us in classes that day, and all who made generous donations of cash as well as items for the shelter. A special thank you to our teachers who donated their time that day, and to Marjorie Ginsburg, for taking the carload of supplies to the shelter afterward. We couldn't have done it without you. Here's to another wonderful year!

NOVEMBER SPOTLIGHT

HOW YOGA WORKS: SWADISTHANA CHAKRA

In our continuing exploration of the chakra system, this month we will focus on Swadisthana Chakra or "Her Favorite Standing Place," also known as the sacral chakra, the sexual center, and the center of our creativity. With the first chakra, we focused on grounding and stability, and building a firm foundation.

In the second chakra, rather than being fixed firm, the challenge is movement, change, yielding, and letting go. The awareness that comes through conscious movement can help to uncover old feelings and memories that have been buried deep inside the body. Hip openers and forward bends bring energy and circulation to areas where prana is not flowing freely, and the very act of bending (bowing) forward is in itself a powerful tool for letting go. When we can acknowledge and reflect upon old resentments, sorrow and blame associated with unresolved feelings about past relationships, we give ourselves the freedom to release them. With courage and humility, we can let go and open to new possibilities.

Join me for "Flow and let Go," a journey through the second chakra--we'll examine what it looks like in excess and deficiency, and learn how to develop a deep emotional core that is grounded, yet fluid enough to flow and foster healthy connections.

Next month, we'll explore the third chakra, Manipura.

I look forward to seeing you on the mat, Namaste!

HOW YOGA WORKS
FLOW AND LET GO: SWADISTAHANA CHAKRA
WITH NICOLE NICHOLS
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22 1:00-3:00PM

Join Nicole Nichols for our continuing series on the chakras as we focus on Swadisthana, the sacral or sexual center.

With the first chakra, we focused on grounding and stability, and building a firm foundation. Rather than being fixed firm, here the challenge is movement, change, yielding, and letting go. Hip openers and forward bending poses bring energy and circulation to areas where prana is not flowing freely. The act of folding forward is in itself a powerful tool for letting go. By cultivating humility and acknowledging old resentments, sorrow and blame associated with unresolved feelings about past relationships, we give ourselves the freedom to let them go, and open to new possibilities.

In this workshop, we'll discuss ways to develop a deep emotional core that is grounded, yet fluid enough to flow and foster healthy connections. Healing our wounds in this chakra fosters emotional depth that is necessary for developing compassion, insight and true power.
