"The heart is like a mirror. When we dust it off, we are able to see ourselves. The dust is all our stuff - guilt, anger - this stuff is reflected back to us. Practice removes the dust from the mirror of our hearts."

SEPTEMBER SPOTLIGHT

HOW YOGA WORKS: THE CHAKRAS

                                                                DRAWING BY ALEX GREY

This month we will begin our 'How Yoga Works' series with an exploration of the chakra system, the subtle-body structure that determines how we see and experience the world around us. Ever wonder why it is, exactly, that you feel so good after a yoga practice? What it is that keeps driving you back to the mat, again and again, because you know through practice that feeling can be replicated, and it's a feeling that allows you to remember your higher Self? The 7 main chakras function as a series of 'doorways of perception' to our reality. How we see and experience the world around us is determined by how well prana is flowing through these energy vortexes. The outer methods of Hatha Yoga--asana and breath, work together with inner methods--intention, focus and meditation--to direct prana and consciousness upward through the chakras, bringing about a radical transformation in body mind and spirit that serves as our own personal "reset button," to bring us back to our natural joyful state. Join me for Chakra Tuning--a special journey through the chakras, Friday evening September 26th 6:00-8:00 pm.

Next month: Muladhara Chakra

I look forward to seeing you on the mat, Namaste!
