Dr. Ryan Umstattd currently serves as the Acting Deputy Director for Commercialization at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) where he is responsible for oversight of all Technology-to-Market activities. 

Ryan previously served as an ARPA-E Senior Commercialization Advisor where he helped prepare breakthrough energy technologies for transition from the lab to customers within the Department of Defense (DoD).

The Smart Cities Council is once again hosting it's Smart Cities Week Conference in Washington, DC. At Smart Cities Week over 1,500 (inter)national, state and local government officials, utilities, policymakers, financiers, technologists, non-profit and trade groups, business leaders, academics, researchers and citizen organizations attended – all with a common goal of working together to develop and build a better future for cities and their citizens.

SMART Series: Water as a Tool for Industrial Economic Development
On August 15, the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster hosted a SMART Series event focused on the intersection of economic development, water infrastructure, and cleantech. Panelists for the event included Chris Johnson of Johnston County Economic Development, the City of Durham, Envirolink, Delta Products, and Itron.
Marketplace - Meet the Developer: Kane Realty
A few days after the SMART Series event, the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster, in coordination with the NC Building Performance Association, hosted the second edition of the new Marketplace series. This event featured Kane Realty as the developer to talk about their future plans for North Hills, Downtown Raleigh, and throughout the Triangle. Bonner Gaylord from Kane Realty was joined on the panel by a series of cleantech providers from Site 1001, Sensus, Southern Energy Management, and Google Fiber.
