What's Your Intention for 2015?

It's the time of year when we tend to look ahead and set goals for ourselves, but how about setting intentions instead? Intentions are different than short-sighted goals that can be gone by the wayside by February (or sooner!). An intention is the driving force behind a goal, and it will motivate you even when the going gets tough. Think of intentions as seeing the forest instead of the trees...

So for example, if your goal for 2015 is to 'get fit' or 'lose weight', take a moment to sit quietly and explore what is beyond that goal. Imagine how life will be, and how you think you will feel as a result of losing weight and getting in shape. Is it a sense of self-love, physical well-being, or freedom? What is the feeling you are striving for? What is the longing in your heart that is pointing you in this direction? Try to meditate on these questions to see if you can become clear on the intention that will help guide you towards real and lasting fulfillment this year.

Can you see how intention invites broader opportunities for personal growth since it doesn't just focus on one detail or habit? Living with intention not only helps you reach your singular goals, it guides all your actions and helps you make decisions that are in better alignment with your whole life's aims, one single choice at a time.

At the beginning of class, Yoga Teachers often invite you to take a moment to set an intention for your practice. This gives you the opportunity to clarify and reconnect to your intention, and to strengthen your resolve. Since intentions are the fuel to manifest your goals and visions, each time you practice, not only are you getting physical and mental benefits, you are also playing an active role in creating your ideal life. 

Set your intention. Practice yoga regularly. Watch the magic unfold.

wellwoodKarma Charity of the Month: Wellwood

This month we are supporting Wellwood with the money we raise in our Karma classes on Friday nights at 7:30pm. We ask for a minimum $7 donation to participate.

Wellwood is a community-based, non-profit organization which provides free information, programs and peer support to people who have received a diagnosis of cancer, loved ones, caregivers and healthcare providers.

Cancer has touched us all in some way, so this month's karma charity is close to our hearts. It is a wonderful organization that we are proud to partner with and support.
