Florida Organic Growers has created a comprehensive list of resources and agencies for farmers who have been affected by disasters, such as Hurricane Matthew.

These resources will help farmers with filing claims and gaining more information about their property.

More than 100 top food and farming entrepreneurs, policy makers, chefs, foodies and consumers came together in September in Orlando for the 3rd Annual Florida Local Food Summit.

The Summit was an opportunity to learn and grow Florida’s local food movement through introductory and advanced coursework, beautiful farm-to-table meals and a Grower’s Festival.

Composting: Turning Yard Waste into Black Gold
Workshop taking place October 25 
Florida Organic Growers and MW Horticulture Recycling will be hosting Composting: Turning Yard Waste into Black Gold , a workshop on Tuesday, October 25 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Fort Myers.

The workshop will cover the basics of composting, large scale composting as a business and much more! Registration is just $25 including the farm-to-table lunch. Learn more and register today!

Fresh Access Bucks kicks of season with team updates
a
nd new markets! 

Florida’s season is in full swing, and the Fresh Access Bucks (FAB) team is busier than ever! We have some updates on the team implementing the FAB incentives program across Florida as we prepare for an exciting 2017.

The FAB team is sad to say farewell to Program Manager Carmen Franz. Carmen has been instrumental in growing the Fresh Access Bucks program from infancy, and was responsible for program management, development, and training new market partners. We wish Carmen the best in her future endeavors!

Katie Delaney and Mary Hathaway are currently leading the FAB program. They will manage development and handle training for current and new markets. Kayvon Bahramian will continue to provide SNAP tech support to farmers markets throughout Florida.

Nature's Food Patch in Clearwater raises $370 for FOG! 
A big thank you Nature's Food Patch in Clearwater for partnering with FOG for National Organic Harvest Month in September!

Through their Bring Your Bag campaign, they raised $370.50 for FOG! Funds raised will benefit our programs and services.

Their October Bring Your Bag campaign will benefit the Non-GMO Project.
Organic Farming Research Foundation offering scholarships to attend Symposium

OFRF is offering a limited number of scholarships to help with the cost of attending the 2017 Organic Agriculture Research Symposium (OARS), taking place on January 25-26, 2017 in Lexington, Kentucky, immediately preceding the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group Conference (SAWG).

Scholarships of up to $350 will be awarded based on the need and merit of the applicant. The scholarship funds may be used for symposium registration ($90-120), travel and one night of lodging.

Come visit the  Alachua County Famers Market every Saturday morning, rain or shine!

Located at 5920 NW 13th Street in a sheltered pavilion next to the fire station, the market can double your SNAP benefits through the Fresh Access Bucks program. Vendors can also accept FMNP coupons as well.

There is live music every morning and remember, get there early because vendors are selling out fast!

Still time to apply for 2016
Cost Share Program!
There is still time to get your application in for the 2016 Cost Share program. 

Certified organic growers and handlers in Florida can now apply for reimbursement of up to 75 percent of certification costs, or a maximum of $750 per scope of certification.

Applications are due by October 31!
