A PRAYER FOR LIFE
Respect Life Month Special Edition
A Prayer for Life
Father and maker of all,
you adorn all creation with splendor and beauty,
and fashion human lives in your image and likeness.
Awaken in every heart reverence for the work of your hands,
and renew among your people a readiness to nurture
and sustain your precious gift of life.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

With many thanks for your continued support of life issues,
Respect Life Office

"Be Not Afraid" Respect Life Month, October 2017

By: Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, Chairman USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities

At such times, we may feel alone and unequipped to handle the circumstances. But we have an anchor of hope to cling to. With words that echo through thousands of years into the corners of our hearts, God says to us, 'Do not fear: I am with you' (Isaiah 41:10).
The 2017-2018 Respect Life theme, 'Be Not Afraid,' reminds us of this promise.

There are times we may doubt the value of our own lives or falter at the thought of welcoming and embracing the life of another. But reflecting on the healed wounds of the Risen Christ, we can see that even our most difficult trials can be the place where God manifests his victory. He makes all things beautiful. He makes all things new. He is the God of redemption..."   Read more

The Purpose of the Spiritual Adoption Program is threefold:
  • Encourage parishes, schools and other communities to pray for
    babies in danger of abortion.
  • Educate adults and children about the development of the pre-born child.
  • Provide mothers in need with assistance at a 'baby shower' of donated baby gifts, or simply celebrate with a 'birthday party' at the conclusion of the program. For more information visit our website.

9 Days for Life

The ideal setting for this "One Night of Prayer, Penance, and Pilgrimage" would be a youth or young adult program on or around the weekend of January 20 or 27, 2018.

The goal of the program is to introduce young people to the 9 Days for Life novena. A short guide that suggests ideas for youth or young adult ministries seeking to incorporate the novena into their parish
programming in January 2018.    More information

Tell Congress Assisted Suicide is Not Healthcare

Cardinal Dolan, Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities and Bishop Dewane, Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development have expressed their strong support for H. Con. Res. 80, a resolution expressing the sense of Congress that assisted suicide is a "deadly, discriminatory and non-compassionate practice." Please join your voice to theirs and urge your Representative to support the resolution which calls on the Federal Government to reject assisted suicide and to ensure that every person facing death has access to the best quality and comprehensive medical and palliative health care.

The resolution, introduced by Representative Brad Wenstrup, (R-OH) along with a bipartisan group of members states that "the Government has a legitimate interest in prohibiting assisted suicide" and explains how assisted suicide endangers everyone, especially those least able to defend against coercion. The Resolution warns that "assisted suicide...puts everyone, including the most vulnerable, at risk of deadly harm and undermines the integrity of the health care system."
