Aetna Will Pay for Eye Visit CPT Codes 92012 and 9201 4

Last week, ASRS received confirmation that Aetna will pay for more than one eye code per year when medically indicated. According to Aetna:

When a diabetic retinal examination is performed by an in-network provider, it will be adjudicated as a preventive service (once per year) with no member cost sharing. For any subsequent medically necessary examinations in the same year, the usual member cost share (e.g., copay and deductible) will be applied. Aetna is currently in the process of identifying and reworking prior denied claims, which should be completed within the next couple of months. At that time, if a provider does not see a corrected claim, then they may call provider services to have the claim reworked.

If you have other eye visit code questions, please contact Monica Horton at [email protected] .
