 TJMC WEEKLY UPDATE
Sunday, August 27-
Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. Preaching: Healing and Rebuilding

This Sunday’s service will be different than originally advertised. We were approached on Friday afternoon by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. who would like to come to Charlottesville to preach his message of healing and rebuilding. Because of our reputation as a progressive community committed to the work of racial justice, he felt that speaking from our pulpit would provide an example of the kind of interfaith coalition building so necessary today. Rev. Jackson will be announcing plans of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition to launch a bus tour, beginning in mid-September, to actively register and motivate voters for the mid-term elections and beyond.

Our schedule is still for one service at 10:00 am. We expect Rev. Jackson to remain after the service to meet people and find ways to connect with the networks already in our community that are working for change.

REMINDER—we are on our summer schedule with one service (at 10AM) with nursery care & Summer Fun Kids Co-op, too! Two services resume on September 17.

"First and foremost, we honor the dedication and the leadership of the members, staff and friends of Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church who have been organizing against white supremacy for a while now. Christina Rivera, TJMC's Director of Administration and Finance and member of our UUA's Board, was with the clergy who peacefully marched to Emancipation Park where white nationalists were gathering around the statute of Robert E. Lee. I was there also, with UUA President Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray, Rev. Jeanne Pupke, Sr. Minister at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond, and Rev. Osagyefo Sekou, the organizer, strategist and musician who was prominently featured at our UUA General Assembly in 2016."

Weaving Worship Together
Beginning next year – our 2017-2018 church year – there will be some changes made to our Worship Weavers Guild. First and foremost, it is no longer a requirement for you to be “out front” on a Sunday morning (No one will be forced to do anything they truly don’t want to.) We are now asking only for a one-year commitment.  Your term of service can be renewed, should the experience be a good one for all concerned, yet you can now be a Weaver even if you don’t have the ability to make a long-term commitment.
If you want to know more about what it means to be a Weaver, and what other changes there are in store for the coming year, please talk with Rev. Wik or any of our current Weavers . If what you’ve read leads you to consider exploring the possibility of being a Weaver, the application and “job description” are available on our website CLICK HERE
