Nurture spirituality. Foster compassion. Engage in service.
April Theme: Freedom
Membership

If you're a member of CUC, thank you! If you're not, can we talk?

Membership is a sacred covenant. It's a little easier to get of than marriage, but, as with the marriage covenant, the membership covenant is a commitment to, and a declaration of, what and who we stand for.

It's OK to "shack up" for a while. That's fine. Take as long a "trial period" as you might feel you need. But if been around for a while, and it's clear to you that CUC is the faith community for you, then I'd say it's time to sign the book and make "honest" partners of each other in our missional covenant.

Ready to join? It's as simple as making an appointment with me at your convenience. We'll chat about what this step means for you, about a plan for your membership to grow increasingly meaningful. Then you can sign the membership book right there in my office -- and receive my right hand of fellowship (and maybe a hug, too) in welcome.

Be Glad

Fortunately, we can overcome that evolutionary predisposition with intentional self-training in being glad.

"It's not enough to want to be compassionate, to want to stand for justice. We have to learn how. We have to learn the skills to hear each other with compassion.

"Cognitive brain learns quickly. Limbic brain is slow and needs a lot of practice, and it's limbic brain that needs the training."
(from "Nonviolent Social Change" sermon, Jan 19)

This workshop begins the vital training in the art of Compassionate Communication.
