Westchester United

Last night (Thu Nov 21) I was at a Leadership Meeting of Westchester United at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Port Chester. I was not alone! There were ten of us from CUC. My deep thanks to Jim Cobb, Ed Dandridge, Mary Donch, Rev. Deb Morra, John Schwam, Hope Tera, Annie Thurow, Petra Thombs, and Jeff Tomlinson for joining me.

See my general overview of Westchester United: CLICK HERE.

At last night's meeting, we learned that Westchester United:

- has been instrumental in preventing school districts from eliminating kindergarten programs, and is a driving force for a state law to require school districts to have kindergarten.

- organized for reductions in gun violence, and in support of a "Do Not Stand Idly By" campaign against gun violence. CLICK HERE.

- held elected state leaders accountable for the failure of the Tappan Zee bridge construction project to yield the promised number of new jobs.

Should CUC join Westchester United? Should we focus our social action efforts on those issues that are also of concern to our neighboring congregations and on which, through teamwork with them, we can have the greatest impact? Talk with me or any of the CUCers who were there with me tonight and let us know what you think.

"Joys, Sorrows, Thanksgiving, & Milestones" Table

Look for the table as you enter the sanctuary on Sunday. There'll be a small notebook, and a bowl of tealight candles. You are welcome to write in the book and light a candle -- or just light a candle -- to express a joy, sorrow, gratitude, or personal milestone. Some of what is written in the book may be included in the prayer in the Worship Service.

Christian and UU?

The Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship (UUCF) is a national organization supporting UU Christians. (See their website: CLICK HERE.)

The Metro NY chapter of the UUCF meets at Community Church of NY (40 E 35th St, Manhattan) on the third Thu evening of each month. For 2013-2014, the chapter is discussing The Gospel of Thomas, looking closely at this occasionally scandalous scripture and also the exciting new scholarship that has been done about it in recent decades. Christian or Christian-curious UUs are encouraged to attend.
