Defying Gravity

I was at the "Defying Gravity: Leadership Day" at Shelter Rock UU Congregation on Sat Nov 9. Our DRE, Lily Rappaport, as well as Al Rocchi, Nicky Klemens, and Jeff and Denice Tomlinson were also there. We heard a mentor of mine, Rev. Christine Robinson. For me, these were good reminders of what I have read her saying before: The world is changing, and the things that made UU attractive one, two, and three generations ago won't work so well with the Gen Xers and the Millenials.

Adapt or die! But what might adapting looking like? Consider Christine's thoughts: CLICK HERE.

It was a fun day! Thanks to Lily, Al, Nicky, Jeff, and Denice for their participation. I'd have liked to have seen a lot more of us at the event. If you didn't make it, I believe you'd have found it a wonderful and energizing way to spend a Saturday.

Sun Nov 17 @ 10:00am: "Spiritual Practice"

How do we develop our SQ -- i.e. "Spiritual Quotient," meaning inner wisdom guided by compassion; equanimity; inner and outer peace?
See you Sunday!
.

New "Joys, Sorrows, Thanksgiving, & Milestones" Table

Look for the table as you enter the sanctuary on Sunday. There'll be a small notebook, and a bowl of tealight candles. You are welcome to write in the book and light a candle -- or just light a candle -- to express a joy, sorrow, gratitude, or personal milestone. What is written in the book may be included in the prayer in the Worship Service. [Note, that's "may be included" -- no guarantees!]

Philippines Relief

CUC member David Bowen is on the board of the AFYA Foundation (www.afyafoundation.org). He's assisting AFYA in their efforts to gather medical and humanitarian supplies for those in need in the Philippines. AFYA's founder, Danielle Butin, has spoken at CUC, and last year the 6th graders spent a Sunday at AFYA sorting for an outgoing shipment to Haiti. (The class then selected AFYA as the recipient of their social action funds raised last year.) David is interested in mobilizing our CUC community to offer donations to assist the Philippines. Please see this press release (CLICK HERE), and contact David for more info.

Also:

The UU Church of the Philippines reports that there has been no loss of life or major building damages in the villages where we have congregations, but there will he significant losses of livelihood in those villages because of damage to fruit trees, banana plants, and rice and peanut crops. Contributions for those and other needs can be made to the UUA and UUSC which have launched a joint special appeal for Philippine relief efforts. As is their practice with international disaster relief, UUSC will take the lead in distributing funds where they can do the most good, targeting contributions toward those most marginalized.
