Cooking with Valérie
September & October
AFMSP is delighted to expand its class offer by proposing cooking classes with Valérie Kohlmayr. Valérie is a French expat who is passionate about culinary arts and simple, healthy everyday home cooking. Register for a three-hour class to focus on a theme or technique or a series of four classes. No French experience required, classes will be led in English and French as appropriate for students.
Join us for 4 cooking classes, once a week. There are a few day and time options:
Mondays 9 am to 12 pm, Thursdays 6 to 9 pm, or Saturdays 1 to 4 pm. See the themes below:

Begining in Dakar, we will learn more about the country's history and rich cultures. On our way north to Saint Louis, the former French capitol of West Africa, we will stop in the Lompoul Desert for lunch and a camel ride in the dunes. After exploring Saint Louis and meeting local artists, we travel south to Toubab Dialaw on the Petite-Côte, an area known for its beautiful beaches and artist colonies, with a stop in Thiès.

Parlez français et Tricotez!
Some AF volunteers are starting up a French conversation and knitting group. This group will meet monthly, alternating locations, beginning in September. First Step Initiative is a Minnesota-based nonprofit operating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We help women in the DR Congo in two ways: (a) we provide grants to support small groups of women in Lubumbashi who collectively will use the money to put their business dreams into action; and (b) we operate a sewing trade school to train women in machine sewing as a vocation. Concordia Language Villages seek French Village Dean for Academic Year
The Academic Year French Dean is responsible for the program development and implementation of French Village programs from September through May. The Academic Year French Programs include Village Weekends for school groups, Adult Weeks, Immersion Weeks for school groups, Family Weekends, and Field trips. The Dean's responsibilities include planning and implementation in the areas of program, staff, budget and public relations, and interacting with the support staff from the facilities and operations areas at the Villages. at The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts
Ragamala Dance Company launches its 25th anniversary home season with an evening of dance by legendary dancer/choreographer Alarmél Valli. Artistic Directors Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy have been studying Bharatanatyam under Ms. Valli since they met her in the Twin Cities in 1984; their training with this master artist formed the foundation of their aesthetic and has been fundamental to the work of the company.
In recognition of Alarmél Valli's contribution to dance, in 2004, she was awarded one of India's highest civilian honours - the 'Padma Bhushan', conferred by the President of India. In the same year, the Government of France conferred on her the Chevalier of Arts and Lettres. Amongst numerous awards received, are the President's award of "Padmasri", the Tamilnadu State Government award of Kalaimamani, the 'Grande Medaille de la Ville de Paris' from the City of Paris and the Award of the Sangeet Natak Akademy- the apex body for music, dance and drama in India.

English Instructor in France Seeks an Exchange with Twin Cities School
Sophie Galera, a high school teacher in a small town, Bellignat dans l'Ain, seeks a Twin Cities area high school to welcome a group of 30 students in March, April or May for a period of 15 days.
