WHAT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED...in 2016.
While 2016 was busy taking many of our celebrity icons, we will also be thinking back on this year as one of great accomplishments. From much needed updates on the former privately-owned utility system to breaking ground on the first City-owned fire station that will decrease response times to the eastern side of the City...we've been working hard to secure funding and get these projects well underway along with many others. Check out these 2016 highlights:
  • Capital Improvements Program (10-year financial planning guide) was adopted by Council to identify future capital expenditures (the big stuff like equipment, vehicles, yard waste processing facility & Catawba Park).
  • New programs were implemented focused on communicating with and empowering you (this newsletter, TC Connect, Citizens Academy and The Extra Mile).
  • New businesses came to the City such as Tega Cay Gourmet Deli, Mr. Putty's Fun Park, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Stonecrest Family Dentistry, GNC, Omega Learning Center, The Learning Experience Daycare facility, Comporium retail center and this week, Greco Fresh Grille, with construction underway for Dairy Queen.
  • Developments meeting criteria set by Council and residents in the Comprehensive Plan including age-targeted homes (Cadence) and mixed-use developments (Windhaven & Game On). These projects alone invest over $100 million in the City and meet many of the needs stated in the Comp Plan.
  • Tega Cay Drive was resurfaced for the first time since the '90s! Permanent painting will take place in the spring as the weather warms.
  • Hubert Graham Way is nearing completion which will allow residents to bypass Hwy.160 as they travel between Stonecrest and the peninsula.
  • 95% complete on the sewer rehab project in traditional Tega Cay ($6.5 million investment into the system)
  • 8 new fire hydrants installed in much needed areas
  • Installation of walking trails in Lake Ridge
  • 4 of 8 tennis courts resurfaced adding Pickleball lines
  • Beach & Swim Center improvements including resurfacing of the pool, additional deck space and new landscaping
  • Our Fire Department was upgraded to an ISO 2 (top 5% of the nation's rated departments)...good news for you on your insurance premiums!
  • Began construction on Fire Station #2 (first City-owned fire station!)
  • SCLEA Accredited the Police Department (only 40 of 280 in SC meet Accreditation standards!)
  • Patrol cars were outfitted with tablets to increase efficiencies and visibility of officers
Whew! And those are only the highlights. We've been working hard for you and we look forward to making great strides in 2017 as well! Happy New Year!
