The floor in the Downriver Council for the Arts (DCA) community gallery has received a much-needed facelift. The old linoleum tile in the historic James R. DeSana Center for the Arts and Culture has been replaced with Kensington Manor Summer Retreat teak laminate flooring from Lumber Liquidators, North America's largest hardwood flooring specialty retailer.
Though founded in 1978, the DCA moved into the Wyandotte Arts Center/Odd Fellows Temple building three years ago. The floor of the spacious room that holds the main gallery was part of a speckled installation from the late 1960's; the color of creamed corn. Worn and dated, it was an eye sore that detracted from the artwork displayed above it. The new floor has a dark wood grain stained rich burnt umber and golden brown. Handscraped laminate creates a beautiful, rustic feel and has a unique texture that enhances spaces.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony to showcase Lumber Liquidators's generous donation will coincide with the opening reception of the "Hanging with a Friend" exhibit at 6:30 p.m. on February 22nd, 2013. A plaque recognizing the company's contribution to the Center will be installed to inform visitors of the gallery's benefactor.
The Downriver Council for the Arts would also like to give a big Thank you to the City of Wyandotte for not only picking up the donation but also installing the gallery flooring. We appreciate all your hard work.
Virginia-based Lumber Liquidators is committed to the environment and the community, supporting sustainable harvesting of raw materials and sponsoring non-profit organizations across the country, including Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Erik Weihenmayer School Tours, the National Braille Press, and Shelter Box, in addition to many others.
