Michelle Felix was one of Rica's researchers who tested fitness equipment in our recent project, carried out with Thomas Pocklington Trust and Metro Blind Sport. Michelle has her own business, based in London, which specialises in audio described exercise for blind and partially sighted people, and provides an interesting insight.

Job opportunity - Rica researcher
We're looking for a researcher to join us in testing products and services for disabled and older consumers. They'll be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a relevant research-based discipline such as psychology, social research, human factors, ergonomics or HCI. We want someone who's familiar with qualitative and quantitative research methods such as user tests, surveys and focus groups. Find out more below.

Dementia: Mental Health Act survey
People living with dementia are sometimes detained, assessed and treated under the Mental Health Act 1983. The Government is now looking at improving the ways the Act is used. They want to hear from service users, carers, and relevant professionals and organisations. The Alzheimer's Society asks you to take part in the review if you can help make the voices of people with dementia heard. Take the survey below.
Blue Badges for more people?

The Blue Badge parking scheme could be extended to include people with non-physical conditions. This proposal  is part of the Government's plan to ensure that people with the greatest need have access to badges, while ensuring the scheme remains sustainable. The  consultation closes at  11:45pm on 18 March 2018.

Long-term funding of adult social care

The Government is to present a Green Paper proposing reforms to care and support for older people. The Communities and Local Government and Health Committees are holding a joint inquiry on the long-term funding and provision of adult social care which will contribute to the Green Paper. They're seeking w ritten submissions on these two topics by 7 March:
  • How to fund social care sustainably for the long term (beyond 2020), bearing in mind the interdependence of the health and social care systems; and
  • How to reach political and public consensus on a solution.
