Richards Rolls to Commanding Three State Flyers Tour Victory at Hagerstown Speedway

SHINNSTON, W. Va. - April 25, 2011 - Josh Richards enjoyed another weekend visit to familiar turf, rolling to a commanding victory in Saturday night's 35-lap Three State Flyers Series season opener at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway.

The 23-year-old, two-time defending World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion from Shinnston, W.Va., dominated the event, leading from flag-to-flag after starting from the pole position to pocket the top prize. It was his second consecutive victory aboard the Ernie Davis-owned Ernie D's Enterprises Rocket No. 25, following his initial triumph of 2011 on April 9 at Winchester (Va.) Speedway.

"The (Roush-Yates Ford-powered) car was just phenomenal," said Richards, who erased the sting of a last-lap loss at Hagerstown on April 2. "Everything just went perfect all night - we started third in our heat and won it, won the dash to get the pole for the feature, and led the whole way in the feature. It's just awesome when everything comes together and you have a night like that.

"Really, I think it might have been the best I've ever felt at Hagerstown. I've won some big races there (including WoO LMS events) and I've had a lot of good runs, but I don't think I've ever had such a good car. The track was perfect - pretty much just like it was when we finished second there a few weeks ago - and we just tightened the car up a little more this time."

Adding a little flavor to Richards' visit to Hagerstown, he had a very familiar face join him as a teammate in the Davis colors. Davis entered a second car that was driven by Bart Hartman of Zanesville, Ohio, who was Richards's teammate on the Rocket Chassis house car team when Richards made his debut as a 16-year-old in 2004.

"It was cool having Hartman as a teammate again," Richards said of the 'Bart Man,' who finished 11th in the feature. "He struggled a little bit because everything with the car was pretty much new to him, and he likes a different feel (to a car) than I do. We changed some things for him during the night and he started to get settled in."

Hartman is scheduled to run Davis' car again this season in the $100,000 Dream and World 100 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio - races that Richards will enter in his blue Kentucky Fuel Corporation/Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket No. 1.

Richards will return this weekend to the WoO LMS in a doubleheader, traveling to Hartford (Mich.) Motor Speedway on Friday night (April 29) and Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, Ky., on Saturday evening (April 30). Both events feature 50-lap A-Mains paying $10,000 to win.

Richards, who leads the WoO LMS points standings through five events, has never competed at Hartford, but Bluegrass has a special place in his career. He made his first-ever competitive start at the track as a 15-year-old, running the Future Dirt Track World Championship event reserved for up-and-coming teenage drivers.
