We are in the process of updating staff pictures on the website. If I had a dollar for each time someone said the word, "Photoshop," I would buy you lunch. "Just darken my hair." "Whiten my teeth." "Make me younger." "Make me skinnier." "I have a pimple!!! Do something." I am no one's favorite right now.

Beauty is a tough subject for me. Growing up, my visits with a certain family member were always marked by comments such as, "Looks like Julie has been spending too much time at the table again." "Julie would be pretty if ____ ." A few Sundays ago, I was on my way to church after battling beauty all morning. My hair was crazy nuts. Nothing (nothing!) in my closet fit except for the mismatched outfit I had on. I was tired, and my mirror told me I looked it. But on the drive here, I kept hearing, "You were made in the image of God. I knit you together before you were born. You were made in the image of God."

Recently, I watched a news program talking about teenagers who are having plastic surgery with their parents' blessing. It broke my heart. Who decided that a nose without a bump is prettier than a nose with a bump? Who decided that God's image is not beautiful until it's been Photoshopped?

Listen to me. You, my friend, are beautiful (or handsome, your choice). You're thinking of all the ways you aren't, right? Stop. You.are.beautiful. You were made by a master craftsman who makes no mistakes. You are beautiful.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them" (Genesis 1:27).

The Global Leadership Summit
Aug. 14-15. 8:30 a.m., Remington's

If last year's Global Leadership Summit had a theme, it would have been, "Be strong and courageous for the Lord our God is with you."

I shared on my Facebook page this morning a quote by founder Bill Hybels. He said, "The heart and soul of the Christian life is learning to hear God's voice and

then developing the courage to do what he asks us to do." I've had this in my heart since last August.

Understand, the GLS is all about leadership. No matter your position in life, you are leading someone. I take lots of notes given by great leaders about what it takes to be the kind of leader we need. But the reminders God gives me through the year come from those people who talk about what God has laid on their hearts. Last Sunday at his church in Atlanta, one of this year's faculty members, Louie Giglio, started the sermon series, "Goliath Must Fall." "What is your Goliath?" he asked. "Be strong and courageous," the Lord says, "For I am with you."

To watch the sermon series, visit www.passioncitychurch.com/watch.

I encourage you to be part of this year's GLS. Register at www.ridgecrestbaptist.org. Click the ad. Or use the supplied envelope.

If your friends/family/neighbors/co-workers who do not attend Ridgecrest but who are students/faculty or military or who work in organizations such as Cru, Young Life, etc., we have special codes for them, as well.

So. I bought my ticket to this concert the other day. For the past month or so, I've been fasting from secular music. I cannot stop listening to the "Neon Steeple" album.

Tickets available at itickets.com or visit remingtons.tv for a link.
