The Month of MAY!!
Happy Spring
It’s fun to share a good laugh. But did you know it can actually improve your health? It’s true: laughter is strong medicine. It draws people together in ways that trigger healthy physical and emotional changes in the body.
May 01-7th is Mental Health Week and we will be focusing on the benefits of laughter as a fun and joyful way to boost your mental health and connections with others!

Family was the focus at Banff Elementary School throughout April. The students watched All the Time in the World, a documentary about a Yukon family who chose to live in the bush for nine months, "disconnecting to reconnect." It's a film by the mom, Suzanne Crocker.

The movie lent itself easily to discussion about the importance of family, and how students at BES spend time with their families.

Is family important for our mental health? Physical health? Emotional health? Spiritual health? When the students are asked these questions, they say yes!

Finally, students describe their own family -- because families come in many shapes and sizes!--and describe the importance of their family.

Grade 6 running Club is open to all grade 6 students at BES every Monday at noon! Grade 5's run on Tuesdays! Soul warmers continues for grade 3/4's every Wednesday at lunch.

School Updates

This week all grades have been having a blast celebrating earth day by playing games outside while learning more about some of our local animals.  We focused primarily on squirrel's tails, deer's  ears, and cougar's stealth.  Ask your kids what they learned.  These games were taught to Mr D, by both instructors from Paleo Play, ( www.paleoplaycanmore.com ) and  Forest Play ( canmoreforestplay.com ).
A huge thanks goes out to both Cory and Dave respectively.

Some of the kindergarten and Grade 1 classes read "Rare is Everywhere", which is a great book about being different, using factual animals that stick out from their counterparts (ie like the blue lobster).

In the upcoming weeks we are getting ready to celebrate Mental Health week with a bunch of laughter.
It's always a lot of fun here at ERS and LGMS!!
