Ring in the New Year with More Than Words!

The New Year brings a new opportunity for More Than Words and our youth to continue to grow. As we start 2017 we just want to thank all those who helped us get here through donations, volunteering, and more! So ring in the new and old with us by volunteering, donating, or just stopping by the store to say hello. And be sure to keep up with all our happenings by following us in our social below!

GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT
By Ali, MTW Graduate

My name is  Ali and I am a MTW graduate. When I heard about More Than Words, I was living in a homeless shelter; I was told I would get a lot of support there, which is what I really needed. At first I was a bit nervous because it was the first time I had worked in a book store and I didn’t think I would make friends, but it turned out to be the opposite. The biggest thing I learned was customer service and managing the cash register. Over my time there, I grew to become a little more calm, independent, organized and mature.

As a recent refugee from Syria, I didn’t know about the college school system but the MTW staff helped me to understand it. While at MTW, I learned about the Northeastern Foundation Year program through a site visit, which MTW helped me apply to and is where I am now. I also get to work at Northeastern! As I enter my third semester, I feel like I know what to expect and can handle it. I hope to earn a bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering. Overall, MTW was like my GPS, it helped me navigate many systems and find the direction towards my goals.

MORE THAN WORDS CELEBRATES THE HOLIDAYS
By  Amaree, MTW Senior Partner

My name is Amaree and I'm a MTW Senior Partner. More Than Words had a holiday party to be able to celebrate and share time with one another. First we got to do a Yankee swap exchange which meant every youth and staff got a present. Then we built gingerbread houses, got to see a lot of MTW graduates and ate lots of food! We also ate handmade desserts from our MTW staff. Many of our volunteers came and it was fun to spend time with them, and with our staff as a team. We hope everyone had a great holiday and New Year too!
