14th Annual New River Raft Race This Weekend!

The Rotary Club of Fort Lauderdale is happy to announce that we will be hosting the third annual New River Raft Race at Esplanade Park on the New River Saturday April 5th, 2014 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The race will start and finish on the river in front of Esplanade Park which is located across from the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Museum of Discovery and Science. The race theme is "Pirates of the River", so decorate your raft and crew. The race is more of a parade than a speed event as all rafts must be human powered only. Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring water guns and squirt rafts and spectators as they paddle or float by but they should beware as others will be shooting back!

Rafts will be judged on a number of criteria including first to finish (ok, it's kind of a race), best design, most spirit and most pirate like crew, among others. The fleet will paddle and splash on the river in front of Esplanade Park where they will compete for prizes to be awarded at the party in the park immediately following the race. There will be food and grog (beer) available to adult pirates (with an ID) and water and soda for the younger buccaneers.

All Proceeds benefit Rotary's 1090 Foundation to provide local students college scholarships, international humanitarian aid and infrastructure project.  See www.newriverraftrace.com for more info!

Stranahan House Celebrates 30th Anniversary as a History Museum on April 11 with Annual Pineapple Jam Dinner
On Friday, April 11, the Historic Stranahan House Museum will celebrate the museum's 30th anniversary as a history museum in Fort Lauderdale at the Annual Pineapple Jam Dinner and Auction. The event will be hosted by Bob and Sandy Moss, community leaders and founding family of Moss & Associates, who will also be celebrating a milestone of their own - their 44th wedding anniversary. The evening begins at 6 pm with a cocktail reception featuring live music, a silent auction, and historic house tours with docents dressed at Frank and Ivy Stranahan House. Dinner will be served at 7:30 pm under a grand tent overlooking the New River.
Event Co-Chairs Debra Vogel, of Wells Fargo, and Pat Kublin, of AutoNation, have spearheaded the efforts on behalf of the Board of Directors to celebrate the museum's history while raising much needed funds to preserve the historic structure and expand the educational programs. "We are honored to have Bob and Sandy Moss celebrate an important milestone with us," shared Vogel. "Their passion for our community and the Stranahan House has helped to lead the charge for this great event! We are grateful they have encouraged so many of their friends and business associates to rally around this important historic site."  For more info and tickets, For more info and ticketing, see www.stranahanhouse.org/events/pineapple-jam.
