Did You Know...
Make Your Vote Count - Primary Election Aug. 14th

What is a primary election?
A primary election determines which candidates will be on the ballot in the November general election.

For example, five candidates from one political party might run for governor. Only one candidate can be on the ballot in November. The winner of the August 14th primary election will represent their party on the November 6th election ballot.
There may be two kinds of offices on your primary ballot: partisan offices and nonpartisan offices.

Economic Development News - Progress Plus
Welcome New Inver Grove Heights Community Development Director
The City of Inver Grove Heights has hired Janice Gundlach for the Community Development Director position. The current Community Development Director, Tom Link will be retiring in August after more than 32 years with the City.

Janice has over 16 years of community development experience. She began her career as a City Planner and through the years her responsibilities have expanded into economic development, progressively taking on more complex projects and advancing to leadership roles in her department and within the economic development area locally. Janice has been working for the City of New Brighton for over 12 years where she is the Assistant Director of Community Assets & Development/Planning Director. One of her biggest accomplishments was being
the project manager for a 100-acre brownfield redevelopment project known as the New Brighton Exchange.

Janice is excited to transition her career to the City of Inver Grove Heights and she is looking forward to the new challenges that come with a larger, growing, urban/rural community that is just starting to engage in economic development efforts.

Ann Bailey Chosen as 80 th  Minneapolis A quatennial Ambassador Organization Commodore and Jackie Paul, Captain.
DARTS, a community-based nonprofit serving older adults and their families in and around Dakota County, is proud that Ann Bailey, President of DARTS , has been selected as the 2019 Minneapolis Aquatennial Commodore for its 80 th  year, recognizing her leadership excellence.

Aquatennial was founded by business owners as a way to promote Minneapolis and the Twin Cities. The  Aquatennial Ambassador Organization  mission is to inspire young women to achieve extraordinary futures by providing professional development opportunities through networking and mentoring. Ann’s role as Commodore is to lead the Ambassador family, consisting of the Queen of the Lakes, two Aquatennial Princesses and two Captains in promoting Minnesota and Minneapolis.

For the first time in 80 years, the Commodore and the two Captains are all women. Bailey is pleased that her team represents women in various leadership phases in their lives: Jackie Paul, Development Associate with 360 Communities and Marjorie Weinhagen, Mother of Three and Office Manager at Weinhagen Tire Company.

The Ambassador team will make over 300 personal appearances across Minnesota and seven appearances throughout the United States and in Winnipeg, Canada. Bailey decided to take on this volunteer task because it is an excellent opportunity to reach out to women of all ages to demonstrate we are all community leaders and provide mentoring through conversations and example. Their mission is to fulfill the Aquatennial mission and to empower women to find and use their leadership voices along the team’s tag line of “ strength with compassion .”
