The Department of Labor announced that $100 million in grants are available to expand registered apprenticeship programs

From Congressman John Kline's Office: The Department of Labor announced that $100 million in grants are available to expand registered apprenticeship programs in industries like healthcare, biotechnology, information technology, and advanced manufacturing. Registered apprenticeships have long been known as one of the best training models for skilled trades ("earn while you learn"), yet the model remains underutilized in the United States. This investment will help to transform apprenticeships for the 21st century and serve as a catalyst to increase the use of apprenticeships to meet employer needs in these sectors.

Approximately 25 grants from $2.5 million to $5 million each will be awarded using funds collected from employers who use H-1B visas to hire foreign workers.

Funding applications must be submitted by April 30, 2015. I encourage you to view eligibility and application information at　http://www.dol.gov/apprenticeship.

2015 Minnesota Legislative Preview

From the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal: The last time Republicans and DFLers had to put their heads together to create a Minnesota budget, the state shut down for 20 days because of an impasse. Don't expect things to go so poorly this time around. Even though the state government is divided again, lawmakers in 2015 are playing with a budget surplus, not a deficit. Businesses will be watching to see what the state does with the $1 billion surplus...

This event will be over 5 lunch hours (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) from 1/20-2/17. The 5 sessions will focus on the Core Pillars of business. Concepts and methods will be presented then you will be provided with the practical tools that can be utilized in your business. This event costs $20 per session or $100 for all 5 sessions. Lunch is provided at each session.
