NOTES
FALL FRESH START
We enjoyed the annual tradition of giving families an official welcome to the school year, introducing key leaders at our school, and enjoying a meal together on Friday night. If you were not able to attend, please plan to stop in Krystal's office this week and browse the volunteer sign-up sheets to lend us a hand this year in a way that's right for you.

If you left dishes or utensils behind on Friday night, please find them in our kitchen before they are lost.
APPAREL ORDERS
We hope that you found the order form for Riverside apparel (t-shits, hoodies, performance gear, hats, bags) in the handbook and saw some of the samples on display on Friday night. Here is a link to a new form if you need it. Orders are due Monday, September 24 in Krystal's office.

If you weren't with us on Friday night to sign up to volunteer, visit this website , where we're organizing our volunteer shifts team this year. Those who signed up on Friday, your names have been added. Middle schoolers are invited to sign up for shifts as well as adults.

FALL FIELD TRIP
This year’s Fall Field Trip will be to the Covenant Hills Camp off of Route 2 in Cabot, VT, see specific dates below depending on grade level. We encourage, welcome, and value the attendance of parents for all or any portion of the trip; you can be helpful to us in supervising students and preparing meals, and you will really enjoy this time to get to know other students and their families. Please let Nelia know if you plan to stay with us overnight at all so that she can plan sleeping arrangements/supervision duties accordingly.

We expect all 4 th -8 th graders to be in attendance Wednesday, September 12 – Friday, September 14. Please organize transportation so students arrive there by 9:00 on Wednesday morning and are picked up at 1:30 on Friday. Directions and packing list are below. K-3 rd Graders will join us on Thursday via organized carpools from Riverside with their teachers, and volunteer drivers (please let teachers know directly if you'd like to join us and can help drive.)

We will dismiss PreK-3 rd graders from Riverside between 12:30-1:30 on Friday, as they’ll be tired from their first full week and the older students have an early release that day as well.  If you have students in both age groups, please pick up your elementary student first, probably soon after 12:30, so that you can pick up at the camp in Cabot on time.

  • Directions: Travel west on Route 2 out of St. Johnsbury, 14.2 miles through Danville and West Danville. Turn left on Houghton Road (note black VT business sign warning in advance for “UCC Camp”), and travel .8 mile to a right hand entrance on Covenant Hills Road.
  • K-3 Chaperones: Please let an elementary teacher know if you plan to attend with younger students during the school day on Thursday.
  • 4-8 Chaperones: Please let Nelia know if you plan to spend a night with us.
  • K-3 Packing List: sturdy shoes, water bottle, sweatshirt, raincoat, bathing suit, and towel
  • 4-8 Packing List: (in addition to what will be worn Wednesday) Remember, it will very likely rain during our Field Trip, and we will continue to learn, play, and bond in the outdoors. Raincoats are non-negotiable, spare socks and shoes encouraged!

  • After-School Program that Friday:  The ASP will run as soon as K-3 students are dismissed from Riverside, as it will on other half-days during the year, until 5:00 pm. The PreK does not have After-School on half days.
SWIMMING
4 th -6 th grade students will begin swimming on Friday afternoons at the NVU (LSC) pool, beginning on September 21. Nelia will be supervising swim teachers ( we’re seeking local volunteers, let us know if you have experience, or know someone who does ) who divide the students in to ability groups and help them improve stroke skills and endurance, as well as practice water safety skills.  We also need a male volunteer to help chaperone the boys’ locker room from 1:45-2:00 and 3:00-3:15, that volunteer could choose to swim with us or not.  Please let Nelia know if you can help.

We will transport students there on a bus at 1:30, and pick up for those students will happen at the NVU pool at 3:15 (allowing you to pick up others at Riverside before at 3:00 or after at 3:30 as needed) that Friday and on all other swim dates: September 21, 28 October 5, 19, 26, and November 2.

Reminder: there is no After School Program for students who are dismissed from off-campus programs.

EASY WAYS TO HELP
The following are a few easy ways to help support Riverside throughout the year.
  • Price Chopper Tools for Schools: This simple fund-raiser benefits the school each time you shop all year long. If you shop at Price Chopper, sign up to support Riverside on the sheet in the front pocket of your Family Handbook. In the past our Price Chopper rewards have earned us much needed sports equipment, a digital projector, and a wireless microphone set.
  • Box Tops: Many food products in cardboard boxes have a small logo on the top that says “Box Tops for Education.” These can earn us rewards and supplies. Please collect and bring these to school. Your efforts greatly help!
  • Good Search and Good Shop: When you use www.goodsearch.com as your search engine and select The Riverside School (in Lyndonville, VT) as your charity, we get one cent for each search conducted. Set your browsers now! From that site you can link to goodshop.com, which then links to all your favorite on line shopping sites (Amazon, Borders, Staples, Marriott, United Airlines, QVC, eBay). Following that link to complete your shopping, and having the Riverside School (in Lyndonville, VT) set as your charity, will result in a portion of the sale being donated to our school.
  • Amazon Smile: Start at smile.amazon.com and select "Riverside School Inc" in Lyndonville, VT. Once you choose us the first time, all you have to do is start your shopping at that url in the future, and .05% of the price of eligible purchases will be donated to us!
