 From the Office
D ear Parents,

We will be celebrating Veterans Day on Friday , November 11 th (school is in session) at 8:45am in front of the side gym doors (inside the gym if it rains). A number of honored guests will be joining us, including veterans and community officials as well as our 4th and 5th grade chorus, our Riverside Women's Chorus and our trumpeters.

As part of our celebration, we will honor former Riverside students who gave their lives for our country.  We honor the memory of: WWII Soldiers:  Phillip Edward George, Jr., Harry Bradbury Johnson, and Clarence Brodie Keith. Korean War Soldiers: Thomas Budd Kean, Nevell Brackett Safford, and Louis Francis Zaccardo. Vietnam War Soldier: Richard Horsfall.

To make this day special we invite ALL veterans, moms, dads and family members to take part in this ceremony.  Please let Mr. Weiss or the office know if you are attending as a veteran or bringing a veteran guest so you/they can be acknowledged.   All veterans in uniform can also participate in our Color Guard placing of the memorial wreaths this year. Please let us know if you can be part of that as well.

Friday  is also a Red Shirt Day! Wear your red shirt and thank a veteran!

Sincerely,
Christopher Weiss
Riverside School Principal

NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR FOOD DRIVE
Neighbor to Neighbor is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving residents in need throughout the Greenwich area. Last year the organization gave out 313,000 meals, 129,000 of which went to children.

The student council is collecting canned meats, fruits, black or red kidney beans, soups, peanut butter and jelly, rice, and pasta.  Collection bins are in every class room. Visitors and parents can drop off donations in the front hallway of the school.  The food drive will continue until Thanksgiving. Thank you for your support!
ELECTION DAY BAKE SALE
The Student Council will be holding a bake sale at the school on Election Day, November 8th, from 9am-12pm. Delicious baked goods will be sold, with proceeds given to Neighbor to Neighbor.

Non-perishable food items will be accepted at the bake sale for the Neighbor to Neighbor Food Pantry.
CARE FOR SELF AND OTHERS
On Thursday, November 10th, Riverside School is participating in GPS celebrating the "Care for Self and Others - Join the Chain of Kindness."

This event promotes safe school climate by fostering social-emotional skills in our students and reinforcing the district's norms to promote care, kindness, empathy and compassion in our children. Teachers, staff and students will be using  "P ay it Forward" Kindness Cards to  perform an act of kindness toward someone in the community and then pass the kindness card on to be repeated. Each card will have a link and a scan code that allows us to track the cards.

Also, On  November 10th  our police officers will be issuing "Kindness Tickets" in the community when they catch someone in a kind act.  All students, teachers and staff members are encouraged to wear  RED that day.

HIGH TOUCH HIGH TECH
This week, the fifth graders got to experience "Vibes" from High Touch High Tech where they found out all the amazing facts about sound.  They discovered what sounds are, got to see sounds, and had lots of fun as they made sound move around.  They also learned about hearing as they made their very own ear drums to "catch the vibes!"
