AFTERS
Registration for our Winter Afters session will open on
Wednesday, January 3rd. Classes begin on Monday, January 22nd. In addition to gymnastics, we will be offering an Innovation Lab class, Minecraft, and an art class.

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE LION KING!
Save the date for the Riverside School Musical, The Lion King, Friday January 12th at 7pm and Saturday January 13th at 11am. This year we will open up a performance to our Riverside Community on Saturday, January 13th at 11 a.m. Details to follow after the holiday break!

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE LORAX!
Save the date for a special screening of The Lorax in the Media Center on Friday, January 26th at 3:30pm! Open to the first 50 children with a parent so be sure to sign up fast! Invitation to follow in 2018.

HIGH TOUCH HIGH TECH
This week, our third graders took part in the High Touch High Tech program "Mixed-Up Matter". They learned about the physical properties of matter, found out what solubility is by making matter disappear in liquids, and discovered what density is by experimenting with different materials.
This Science in Education Program was sponsored by your PTA.

ARTS IN ED
This Tuesday, local artist and teacher Michele Mozian visited all 5th graders for a demonstration of Chinese brush painting. She explained the brush strokes, colors, and customs related to this traditional art form and other aspects of Chinese culture. Each student had the opportunity to paint over rice paper using this technique.
This program was organized by the Arts in Education Committee thanks to your generous donations to the PTA.

SAFETY REMINDER!
Please take a moment to read the "
Rules of the Road
" as a reminder about the protocols for drop off and pick up. The goal is to keep our kids safe! All parents and any other caregivers who handle drop off or pick up for your child should review this.
We also continue to need
Safety Duty volunteers each morning from 8:30am-8:45am to help with the drop-off process to ensure kids are getting out safely and to keep the flow of cars moving smoothly. Please sign up

GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK
Last minute holiday wrapping to do? Keep it green with recycled paper, reusing old bags, or better yet, skip the traditional wrapping and use a pretty cloth napkin or scarf instead. Click

YOUR CHILD'S DIGITAL LIFE
Starting in January, Mrs. Browning will lead a series of sessions for parents about digital citizenship, research tools, and the key apps used in school. This is a terrific opportunity to see how your children and their teachers use digital tools at Riverside School. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending any or all of the following sessions:
- Tuesday, January 9th -- Digital Citizenship in School and Beyond
- Tuesday, February 6th -- Familiarize Yourself with Our School's Research Tools and Databases
- Tuesday, March 6th -- Getting to Know Schoolology and Google Drive
- Tuesday, April 3rd -- Power Apps Used in School
These sessions will from from 2-3pm in the Media Center. An additional evening session from 7-8pm is currently under consideration, depending on demand. If you are committed to attending an evening session for the January 9th program, please fill out
this form. The night session will run if there is enough interest.

***This is especially important as the cold weather approaches as we may leverage this technology to help with our Emergency Early Release process.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC BEE CONTEST - 4TH AND 5TH GRADES
Save the Dates for this year's Geography Bee!
The National Geographic Bee, a nationwide contest sponsored by the National Geographic Society will be held at Riverside on January 17th to 19th
from 3:20 to 4:20.
With a first place prize of a $50,000 college scholarship - plus other prizes - the Bee is designed to encourage the study of geography.
