Dear Parents,
It's almost the last week of school before our holiday break so the school is buzzing with excitement. It's a busy time of year with parent/ teacher conferences, classroom celebrations and the holidays and we hope you all take time to enjoy it.

Our very own Mrs Browning will be offering sessions for parents on digital citizenship, research tools and key apps in January which we encourage you all to attend. Please see below for details.

Have a great weekend!

SCHOOL START TIME SURVEY -- DEADLINE IS TODAY!
We encourage all parents to fill out the survey that was issued to you last week by the Greenwich Public Schools in order to gather input from the school community - both families and staff - regarding the impact of the new school start times. The deadline to complete the survey is TODAY .

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE LION KING!
Save the date for the Riverside School Musical, The Lion King, Friday, January 12th, 7pm and Saturday January 13th, 11am. This year we will open up a performance to our Riverside Community on Saturday, January 13th at 11 a.m. Details to follow after the holiday break!

SCIENCE IN EDUCATION
Science in Education brought in Dinosaur's Rock last week for the second grade.  They were given an educational hands-on experience about dinosaurs.  They were allowed to do a fossil dig with real specimens and even got to bring home small samples.
SAFETY REMINDER!
As the weather gets colder we wanted to take a moment to remind you of the " Rules of the Road " to keep our kids safe during drop off and pick up. All parents and any other caregivers who handle drop off or pick up for your child should review this.
We also continue to need  Safety Duty volunteers each morning from 8:30am-8:45am to help with the drop-off process to ensure kids are getting out safely and to keep the flow of cars moving smoothly. Please sign up here via our online google doc sign up sheet for Safety Duty.
ALLERGY REMINDERS FOR THE HOLIDAYS
cartoon-cake.gif
As excitement builds for holiday celebrations over the next couple of weeks, please be mindful of our students with life threatening food allergies. As a reminder, please be careful of what you send into school with your child for snacks and lunch as well as what your serve on play dates. The most common food allergies (many found in candy and snacks) are: peanuts, tree nuts, milk, wheat, eggs, soy, fish, and shellfish.  Please read labels carefully to ensure the safety of all of children.  A product that contains a "Top 8" allergen or is labeled "May Contain", "Contains" or "Made in a facility that processes" the allergen, is not safe for a child with that particular food allergy.  Additionally, please be sensitive to children who may have allergies to foods beyond the "Top 8" if they are known in your child's classroom. A list of allergy-friendly snacks can be found here.
GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK
This holiday season, enjoy spending time with family and friends, and try not to create too much waste!  Consider these statistics:
  • Americans throw away about 25% more trash between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve.
  • If every American family wrapped just three presents in reused materials, it would save enough paper to cover 45,000 football fields.
  • About 35% of Americans have an unused Christmas present collecting dust in their closets.

SCHOOL LUNCH REMINDERS AND UPDATE
Lunch bag
Please consider using MySchoolBucks if you do not already have a pre-paid lunch account for your child:
1. Access MySchoolBucks using their free app on your smart phone or from their website. Set up automatic payments and receive low balance reminders.
2. Keep track of your child's spending habits and what they are buying.
3. The lunch line moves much faster with an account than when children bring in cash!

Healthier snacks are now on offer in the cafeteria. Read more here if you missed the district's food services memo.

Special snacks are now only offered to grades 3-5 on Mondays (soft pretzels) and Thursdays (cookies or ice cream). Children may purchase these items with cash or their pre-paid accounts.  You may opt out of these purchases by simply indicating on your account that purchases are for meals only.

More information on school lunches and MySchoolBucks is available here.
AFTER SCHOOL CHILDCARE - ON HOLD UNTIL NEXT SCHOOL YEAR
