 From the Office
D ear Parents,

Greenwich Public School's strategic plan is being implemented throughout the district and can be reviewed here.  Of special note is the "Vision of the Graduate" (page 2 of the online brochure) which Riverside School strongly supports through our academic work, our work with social-emotional learning and leadership, and through our theme of Innovation.

We had a wonderful Veterans Day ceremony today.  Special thanks to our PTA, speakers, singers, musicians, and teachers for their work with the Riverside Chorus, the Riverside Women's Chorus, and the trumpet players during the ceremony. It was a beautiful event honoring all veterans and we are thankful for the parents, family members, town and state officials, and veterans who joined us.

Sincerely,
Christopher Weiss
Riverside School Principal

SAFETY DUTY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS
The days are getting colder and more kids are being driven to school. Jackets, hats and gloves are getting more numerous! They really need our help at drop-off to manage it all.  Please click  here to sign up and help.

The commitment is just 15 minutes as often as your schedule allows (once a week, once a month...whatever you can give). The payoff is big! Lots of heartfelt smiles and thank yous from kids and parents to start your day.
NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR FOOD DRIVE
The Student Council's Neighbor to Neighbor Food Drive will continue at Riverside School through Thanksgiving, with about four crates (50 items) being donated each week to date. Let's keep up the momentum!  C anned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned beans or lentils, pasta, rice, peanut butter and jelly are the most needed items.  All donations are welcome in the front foyer and in each child's classroom, and will greatly help local families in need.
APPLE WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS
Do you want to learn more about using an iPad so that you can keep up with your child?  GPS has arranged four upcoming workshops at the Greenwich Avenue Apple Store with you in mind!  Dates, topics and registration information is available here. Bring an iPad if you are able.  These workshops are led by Apple store staff.  GPS DLE workshops on topics relating to how devices are used in the schools are in the works and will be shared as soon as they are announced.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ADVANCED STUDIES
Parents of 5th, 6th and 7th graders interested in learning about Middle School Advanced Course Options in Math, Science and ALP Language Arts are welcome to attend an information session on Monday, December 5th in the Greenwich Town Hall Meeting Room on the 1st floor either 9-10:30am or 6:30-8pm.  For more information, click here.  To see this information in Spanish, click  here.
SUCCESSFUL ELECTION DAY BAKE SALE
The Student Council's Election Day bake sale at Riverside School was a great success.  Fourteen students volunteered to work the sale, twenty baked and some did both.  A grand total of $620 was raised for Neighbor to Neighbor.  Most of the 400 baked items were sold and the remainder was donated to their Food Pantry.  A win/win for everyone!

TRADING CANDY FOR A BEAUTIFUL SMILE
Thank you to all Riverside School families and children who donated unwanted Halloween candy. We collected over 410 lbs this year!

Our donations are being sent to U.S. Troops with the help of Greenwich Pediatric Dental Group.  Dr. Stacy Zarakiotis is also matching $1 for every pound of candy collected and will be donating $410 to Operation Smile (operationsmile.org).  Because of our school's enormous donation, we have fully funded one child's cleft pallet surgery plus treatments and supplies for other pediatric dental conditions!
