Dear Parents,
We hope your school year is off to a great start and your children are enjoying their classes and reconnecting with friends. If you are a new family to our Riverside community, welcome! The Riverside PTA has been busy these first few weeks rolling out various programs and new initiatives, and planning for a great year ahead.
*NEW THIS YEAR* - We are excited to be rolling out our first ever online PTA directory (RIVPTA.org) - details below. We are also happy to share that our renovated cafeteria is almost complete following the delivery of the new tables and chairs this week. And finally, we are happy to be supporting the school administration in rolling out a new online tool to help you manage all aspects of your child's attendance and dismissal through a new online tool and app called School Dismissal Manager - details are below.
*HIGHLIGHT FOR NEXT WEEK* - Our Fall PTA Meeting will take place next week on Wednesday, September 20that 2pm. Our guest speaker Dr. Demetris Delos, an Orthopedic Surgeon and fellow Riverside resident, will be presenting on sports specialization in young athletes and tips for injury prevention. We hope to engage the Riverside community in a great discussion. We will also share some PTA highlights and plans for the 2017-2018 school year.

PTA MEETING NEXT WEEK
 Please join us at our first PTA meeting of the year. We will review our operating budget, approve our Nominating Committee, and hear from Dr. Demetris Delos on sports specialization in young athletes and injury prevention. It will be a great meeting and we hope to see you all there!

FALL AFTERS START NEXT WEEK!
Our Fall Afters session starts next week, Monday, September 18th. All classes run from 3:15-4:15.
Please arrive by 4:10 to ensure a prompt dismissal.
*Parents of kindergarteners are asked to come in next week to escort your child to each of his/her
Afters classes. This is only for the first week of Afters; you will not be asked to do this again.

To update your child's dismissal instructions on the days that they are signed up for Afters in the new School Dismissal Manager (SDM) system, please click on "Recurring Dismissal Instructions" from your desktop computer.

EARLY MORNING PROGRAM
The Early Morning Program at Riverside School provides a childcare option for Riverside students prior to the start of the regular school day. The program runs Monday through Friday from 7:15am until school opens at 8:30am. For more information or to enroll your child in the program, click

PICTURE DAY IS NEXT WEEK!
Picture Day is
Tuesday, September 19th
. Class photos will be taken outside, weather permitting, and all others will be taken inside. Extra order forms are available at school. Completed forms can be returned to the classroom teacher or to the "school photos" basket near the Birdhouse, or order online at coffeepond.com.

FALL FUNDRAISER - SAVE THE DATE
Save the date for Riverside School's Annual Fundraiser, which will be held on Saturday, October 21st at 7pm. This year's theme will be "Rock N Raise". Watch for more information and volunteer opportunities!

GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK
Back to School means back to packing lunches! Involve your children in finding creative ways to go waste free -- replace plastic bags with reusable containers, paper napkins with cloth, and ditch the bottled water. The cafeteria has a new water fountain which is perfect for filling reusable cups and bottles!

OPEN HOUSE - BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Back to School Night will be Tuesday, September 26.
Classroom visits will be as follows:
Parents of grade K-2 students 6:30-7:15 PM
Parents of grade 3-5 students 7:45-8:30 PM
Specialists (Music, Art, PE, FLES, ESOL, Reading, Media, etc.) will be available to meet with any interested parents from 7:15 pm-8 pm.

ALP OPEN HOUSE
 An Open House for parents with children enrolled in the Advanced Learners Program (ALP) will be held on Wednesday, October 4 from 2-3pm.

DENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM
 The Dental Health Program will begin the week of September 25th and run through the month of October. This program is run by the Town of Greenwich and includes both an educational portion as well as a dental screening for all the students at Riverside Elementary School. Parents can also help by providing good, nutritious snacks and lunches for their children. Thank you for promoting good dental health!
