PTA Highlights
Dear Parents,

We hope you all survived the snow days and are staying safe and warm. We had a great Fruit and Veggie Challenge and your kids enjoyed showing off their colorful lunches and participating in the grade level competition. Thank you for all your efforts! Don't forget to have your child(ren) complete their color challenge chart here and bring it to school on Monday.

Please mark your calendars for the early release on Wednesday, March 14th.   We also have Pizza Bingo coming up on Friday night, March 23rd.  Tickets are now on sale - details below!

Finally, please consider volunteering for the PTA next year!  We always need help and support from the many wonderful parent volunteers to continue bringing the great programs to Riverside. Nominate yourself or a friend - please see details below.

Have a great weekend,

CONNECTICUT HISTORICAL SOCIETY VISIT
On Monday the Connecticut Historical Society visited the 4th Grade classes to present the interactive program, " On the Move: Immigration and Migration to Connecticut."  Through this program, students were introduced  to stories about moving to Connecticut. A game of chance looked at the difficult choices and conditions faced by immigrants throughout history. Students then worked in teams to examine artifacts from "immigration trunks" where they uncovered different stories about moving to Connecticut.  Finally, they created and curated their own exhibits to present their discoveries to their classmates.   This program was organized by the Arts in Education Committee and made possible by your generous donations to the Riverside School PTA.  Thank you!
SCIENCE IN EDUCATION
Animal Embassy visited the 3rd grade on Tuesday, March 6th. They learned about endangered species and had the
opportunity for hands-on contact with live animals.
ST. BALDRICK'S EVENT AT WESTERN MIDDLE SCHOOL
Help support the fight against childhood cancer through St. Baldrick's!  Western Middle School is proud to host St. Baldrick's on Thursday, March 15th, 6:30-8:30, in the gym! The St. Baldrick's Foundation is the top private funder of childhood cancer research grants in the U.S. and around the world.  In this community-building WESTERN CARES event, "shavees" ask for monetary pledges from family and friends, then choose to either shave their heads or donate 8 inches of hair.  This event is open to the whole district.  Please spread the word and sign up today!  Anyone wishing to participate must turn in the Participant Agreement (night of the event) and may sign up by clicking the "JOIN US" button here.
SHOE DONATIONS
Please help the Greenwich United Way Sole Sisters as they collect new and gently used shoes for Neighbor to Neighbor. Donations can be left in the box located in the school lobby.
GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK - BAG IT!
Americans go through an estimated 100 billion plastic bags a year.  Approximately 900 million of those are handed out in the State of CT and almost 12 million of those are handed out in Greenwich alone!   Here is a  great article  from a local Greenwich mom regarding her efforts to "bag" the problem!  Don't forget your reusable tote.
