Dear Parents,
Great job Riverside School for raising nearly $6,000 in the Run for Life fundraiser supporting HERNS disease!! Thank you to everyone who participated for this great cause!
Summer is around the corner and we are excited to announce a school wide summer reading book, Peter Pan. Riverside Elementary School has chosen this classic tale for all students to read across all grades as a suggested shared summer reading experience. A selection of Peter Pan books (with a wide variety of reading levels) will be available at the Summer Reading Book Fair on June 5th.
We hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!

2018 SUMMER BOOK READ: PETER PAN
For the first time, Riverside Elementary School has chosen a classic story for students to all read independently or with their parents across all grades as a suggested shared summer reading experience. This will culminate in back to school activities in the Fall of 2018.
This summer's selection is "Peter Pan," originally by J.M. Barrie.
This classic tale of a free-spirited and adventurous young boy who can fly and never grows up will certainly captivate the minds of our students this summer!
A selection of Peter Pan books for all reading levels will be available at the Summer Reading Book Fair on June 5th. Details below.

CURRENT PARENTS OF FOURTH GRADERS: READ ALL ABOUT IT!
Next year, in fifth grade, your child has the opportunity to apply to be a Riverside Reporter. Becoming a "Reporter" is an opportunity for your child to develop their investigation skills, and nurture their ability to write reports for the school community.
|
RIVERSIDE RHYTHMS
On Tuesday, May 15th, Riverside Rhythms presented the final lunchtime concert of the school year. We hosted four opera singers (including Riverside parent Brett Kroeger) who performed a variety of opera and musical theater numbers. The children were impressed with the singers' vocal range and power, as well as their ability to convey the meaning of a song even when the audience doesn't speak the language in which it is performed.
The Riverside Rhythms program is funded by the PTA. Thank you for your support of Riverside Rhythms this year!

ARTS IN EDUCATION
This Tuesday, our Third Graders were treated to a visit from the CT Historical Society. In the hands-on program History Detectives: Exploring Native American Life, our students became historians and investigated the pre-contact lifestyle of Native American people in Connecticut. They learned about different kinds of natural resources, discovered the importance of oral tradition, and played a traditional Native American game.
This program was organized by the Arts in Education Committee and made possible by your generous donations to the Riverside School PTA.
