Dear Parents,
We have a number of Innovation Space Open Lab dates (for Riverside students with a parent), 3:15-4:15pm in April-June, available now, with some Monday and Wednesday sessions added. You can sign up
here.
Save the Date -- Wednesday, May 31st we will hold a Family Math Night here at the school with lots of fun and engaging math activities for the whole family to enjoy. We are asking families with a last name starting with A-L to attend from 6-7pm and for families with a last name starting with M-Z to attend from 7-8pm. We hope you can join us. More information to follow.
At the Board of Education meeting last evening, I shared a short video about the Global Cardboard Challenge event held at school in September as an example of some of the ways our students are demonstrating academic,
personal, and interpersonal capacities
noted in the GPS Vision of th
e Graduate, which is a key part of the GPS Strategic Plan (see more information here). Special thanks to Riverside Parent, Mrs. Julie Dozier, for producing the video and taking many of the photos and clips. You can view the video
here.
This Saturday
is an exciting FREE event held at the Westport (Connecticut) Library. The Westport Maker Faire is an exciting mix of projects, ideas, and innovations on a much bigger scale than our S.T.E.M. Fair.
Many call Maker Faires
the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth - a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. You can find out more here.

PENNIES FOR PATIENTS - A "CENT"SATIONAL SUCCESS
The Riverside community raised a record $3,300 for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. This money goes to help research a cure for blood cancers, especially in children. This was truly a school-wide effort, with every grade participating. The highest overall grade level total came from fourth grade, followed by first and third grades. Mr. Ronk's class raised the most in the school: $390.07, second highest class was Mrs. Crawford with $343.29 followed by Mrs. DiDonato.
Congratulations and thank you to all for making this such a success!

STARelief AND PET ASSISTANCE
Ms. Sturman's first grade class along with student council will be collaborating to help with an animal relief organization called STARelief and Pet Assistance, based in Stamford, CT. The organization provides funding and supplies to help pet owners who are struggling financially and cannot maintain optimal pet care. They are looking for the following wish list of donations:
- Flea and tick control -- all weights (Advantage, Frontline)
- Friskies, Purina cat food
- Scoop-able cat litter (any kind)
- New or gently used towels
- Gift cards: Walgreens, CVS, Stop-n-Shop, Shoprite, Amazon, PetSmart, Petco, Pet Valu
Each classroom will be collecting any of the above items, and Ms. Sturman's class is putting out a cash collection box in the front of the school through
Monday, May 8th. Please help if you can!

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK WAS A SUCCESS
The teachers and staff had a great week! They enjoyed a smoothie day, a luncheon with a Taco Truck, gift cards from each class, wonderful cards from the kids, and incredibly decorated bulletin boards with lovely notes from the kids!
An enormous thank you goes out to all of our Class Parents for all their efforts to make the week a success. A huge thank you to Chamisa Wilkinson and the Bulletin Board Committee for creating the inspiring and beautiful bulletin boards and to Julia Romeo for all her help working with the kids for the messages on the bulletin boards.
