PTA Highlights
Dear Parents,
Happy Friday! We are looking forward to seeing many of you at Boo Bash tonight!! Our tireless volunteers worked yesterday after school and through the evening transforming the gym, cafe and corridors into a Halloween wonderland. They are currently working all day today so thank you to everyone for all of your hard work to make this a special evening for our children.

Also, we hope you enjoyed our Fall Fundraiser last weekend! We are very appreciative of your generosity and support. An enormous thank you goes to our Fall Fundraiser Co-Chairs and committee for organizing such a fun and thoughtful fundraiser to benefit our school. We had a very successful auction and will be using the money to fund the teacher's wish list, arts in ed programs, science in ed programs, field trips and much more!

Have a happy and safe Halloween!

HALLOWEEN ALLERGY AWARENESS REMINDER
Earlier this week, you should have received information about FARE's (Food Allergy Research and Education) Teal Pumpkin Project and how you can show your support for children with food allergies during Halloween.

In support of this initiative, the 5th grade bake sale at the Boo Bash will be offering some allergy-friendly treats donated by Izzi B's, an allergen-free bakery in Norwalk.

CALLING ALL VETERANS!
Please join us for the 13th  annual Veteran's Day Ceremony where we will honor those who served in the armed forces, particularly those who gave their lives protecting our freedom.    Please invite any veterans: grandparents, parents, friends, aunts or uncles who served in any aspect of the military. If you know a veteran who plans on joining us, please email [email protected]  so that we can properly recognize and thank them.

The ceremony will take place on Friday, November 10th , 8:45am  on the front lawn (in the gym if it rains).   Hope to see you all there!

HALLOWEEN CANDY DONATIONS
The Wellness Committee will be collecting any unwanted Halloween candy next week for the three days following Halloween.  All types of wrapped candy are acceptable.  No loose or unwrapped candy.  Please leave your donations in the marked orange collection box by the school office on Wednesday, Nov. 1st through Friday, Nov. 3rd.
HALLOWEEN ALLERGY AWARENESS TIP
Halloween is chock-full of tricks and treats - a fun time of the year for all, but a time that is scary to children with life threatening food allergies and their parents on a whole different level.  Over the next couple of weeks, with candy abounding, please be mindful of what you send into school with your child for snack and lunch. The most common food allergies (many found in candy) are: peanuts, tree nuts, milk, wheat, eggs, soy, fish and shellfish. Please read labels carefully to ensure the safety of all children. A product that contains a "Top 8" allergen or is labeled "May Contain", "Contains" or "Made in a facility that processes" the allergen is not safe for a child with that particular food allergy. Additionally, please be sensitive to children who may have allergies to foods beyond the "Top 8" if they are known in your child's classroom.

A list of allergy-friendly snacks can be found here. For additional information on allergy awareness in Greenwich Public Schools, please refer to the district's guideline here.
GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK
Compost your leaves!   Falling leaves are beautiful and valuable.  Instead of bagging leaves and leaving them out with the trash, collect and compost them to create nutrient-rich, organic soils that will be ready for use by the spring.  Click here for some simple tips to start composting!
RIVERSIDE RHYTHMS
On Friday, October 20th, Riverside Rhythms hosted Rick Reyes for our first lunchtime performance in the newly refurbished cafe. Rick is a local singer/songwriter and guitar player who treated the children to a mix of songs with Latin, Caribbean, and rock rhythms. Riverside Rhythms is made possible by donations to the PTA.  Thank you!
