Dear Parents,
Next Tuesday, February 6th Fionnuala Browning will be hosting a parent seminar from 2-3pm in the Media Center focused on "Familiarizing Yourself with Our School's Research Tools and Databases". We hope you can join! Other events coming up this spring include Pizza Bingo, STEM Fair and Fruit and Veggie Challenge. Please see the information below if you would like to get more involved and volunteer for one of these events.
Finally, a big thank you to our Green Committee for a very successful Lorax Movie Afternoon last Friday. Fun was had by all!

PIZZA BINGO -- VOLUNTEER NOW!
Riverside's annual family fundraiser, Pizza Bingo, will be on
Friday, March 23rd! Planning is underway! If you would like to join the committee and help out, stop by Riverside School on Thursday,

THE STEM FAIR IS COMING!
Riverside's fourth annual STEM Fair will be held on
March 20-21, 2018! The Fair gives students a chance to sharpen their STEM skills as they explore their world and/or create solutions to real-world problems. Participation is voluntary and all students in grades K-5 are welcome! For more information and to register, click

LET'S GET PLANTING!
Spring is almost here, and the Garden Committee is planning some fun winter seed planting activities for the classrooms. Please recycle your empty plastic milk, juice, and water jugs to use as mini greenhouses! A drop-off bin will be located in the front hall.
Any home gardeners who would like to give it a try can find the instructions here. Happy Gardening!

HIGH TOUCH HIGH TECH
This week, the kindergarteners took part in the High Touch High Tech program "Weather or Not". They learned all about the weather with an up-close and hands-on look at a real tornado! They also made clouds and rain indoors, touched lightning, discovered the amazing properties of air and air pressure, and made the conditions change as they lifted ice cubes with a string. This Science in Education program was sponsored by the PTA.

EDS/SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT MEETING
The next EDS/Special Education Parent Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 22nd at 1:00pm, at Town Hall in the Mazza Meeting Room. Presented by Attorney Jeffrey L. Forte, Forte Law Group, and hosted by the PTAC EDS Committee. All parents are welcome! Any questions, please contact the committee chairs at [email protected].

A NOTE FROM THE NURSE
If your child goes to the Doctor and is diagnosed with something contagious (such as Strep throat, Flu, 5th Disease or Coxsakie Virus) please have the Doctor fax (203-637-1004)
a note with the diagnosis. A health alert can only be sent after receiving the Doctor's note.
To date we have very few cases of flu at Riverside. If you think that your child has flu please keep them home and consult with your child's Doctor.

YOUR CHILD'S DIGITAL LIFE
Please mark your calendars for the following upcoming sessions led by Mrs. Browning:
- Tuesday, February 6th -- Familiarize Yourself with Our School's Research Tools and Databases
- Tuesday, March 6th -- Getting to Know Schoology and Google Drive
- Tuesday, April 3rd -- Power Apps Used in School
These sessions will run from 2-3pm in the Media Center. An additional evening session from 7-8pm is currently under consideration, depending on demand. The night session will run if there is enough interest.

. Our goal is to have all families at Riverside using this system. Also, there is a School Dismissal Manager (SDM) App available so you can make updates on the go! Please contact the front office if you no longer have the details for login.
This is especially important as the cold weather approaches as we may leverage this technology to help with our Emergency Early Release process.
