 From the Office
Dear Parents,

We have one more Innovation Space Open Lab date (June 12), 3:15-4:15 pm. You can sign up here.

We have been pleased to have Miss Akane Edwards (a senior from GHS) here this past month as our technology intern, working with teachers and students. Her last day will be next Friday. We are thankful for her many contributions in classrooms and in our innovation space and media center.

Special thanks to Mr. Hoffman (and Mrs. Miserocchi as accompanist) for their work with our 3rd grade and advanced orchestra students at their concert Monday evening. The students shared beautiful music with us. Thank you to all the parents for their support of the school's many music programs.

The district's current class section projections for Riverside for the 2017-2018 school year are for 4 sections each of Kindergarten-4th grade and 3 sections of 5th grade.  These are current projections only and the number of sections could change based on actual enrollment. On August 15th, a determination will be made by the district on the number of sections we will start the school year with.  If the number of scheduled sections changes before August, I will send out an update to parents.

would like to announce the following staffing changes at the school for next year. Mrs. Kate Miserocchi has taking an ALP teaching position at Parkway School and her full time position will be filled by Mrs. Stacy Mozer (current 3rd grade teacher). Mrs. Kim Schultheiss is taking a leave of absence from 5th grade next year and Mrs. Jayne Hirshfield (current 3rd grade teacher) will be moving to 5th grade. Mrs. Julia Romeo will be leaving her art position to work closer to her home next year and we welcome Ms. Karen Masso, formerly an art teacher at Eastern Middle School, as our full time art teacher. We would also like to welcome Ms. Jill Winningham to our 3rd grade teaching team. She joins us from New Lebanon School with many years of experience in the classroom, including the 3rd grade.

Mrs. Mary Anstey will be moving to our 4th grade teaching team (now with four sections). Our school psychologist, Ms. Taylor Carroll-Marino, will be taking the psychologist position at North Street School and Mr. Mike Parisi will be taking a position at EMS as a P.E. teacher. We are actively working now to fill the open positions of grade 5 teacher, P.E. teacher, and school psychologist. We wish the teachers who are heading to other schools the very best and thank them for their service to our students, families, and school community.

Based on the number of native Spanish students we have enrolled in grades 3-5 next year, we will have a Native Spanish program available in both 3rd and 4th grade (extended from just 3rd grade this year). The FLES teacher will provide differentiated instruction for the students in grades 5 who are fluent in Spanish.

An email was sent to all parents from the district this week about a GPS Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) survey for students (3rd-12th grade only) to take place next week in school. The opt-out date for student participation is today so please complete the opt out form online contained in that letter if you don't want your 3rd-5th grade child to complete the short survey).

Sincerely,
Christopher Weiss
Riverside School Principal

TREE DEDICATION AND MEMORIAL SERVICE
On Wednesday May 31st, Riverside School, in conjunction with the Riverside School PTA and the town of Greenwich held a memorial service for a former student, Jake Andrews, who attended Riverside School several years ago.  Jake recently lost his battle with cancer at the age of 18.

The Town of Greenwich donated and planted an Oak Tree in his memory, which can be viewed in front of the school's main playground, along with a dedication plaque.  We thank the friends of the family, and everyone who was involved to help make this dedication possible.
