D
ear Parents,
We are so thankful for the tremendous turn out of parents for our open house yesterday. Your involvement in our school and in your child's education helps us to be successful as we work together as partners in our learning community. We look forward to a great school year together.
Today, as part of our school's continued theme of Innovation, we reintroduced to students "Genius Hour". Genius Hour is a movement that allows students to explore their passions and interests and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn. The work is primarily student directed. For most classes, Genius Hour will be held every other Friday in the afternoon for an hour. You can see our goals and resources
here.
As per district requirements, Riverside School will hold a practice "
lockdown
" Friday, October 21 between 10-11 am. This is a practice
drill
where public safety officers (a police officer, a fire department representative, and the central office security coordinator) will participate with us in the
drill
. We want to make you aware of this event
since we will not be answering the phones or letting any parents into the building during that time. The students will be prepared by their teachers for the drill
and they will understand that it is just a practice to keep them safe.
Christopher Weiss
Riverside School Principal

GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK: START COMPOSTING!
October is the perfect month to begin composting! Simply pile up all your leaves, yard clippings and select food waste, and microbes will naturally break down the organic matter to create a nutrient-rich soil additive. The decomposition process takes a few months, so start your pile today and by springtime you'll have heaps of so-called "black gold" to nourish your shrubs and garden plants -- for free!
|
The PTA will be having its first general meeting on Tuesday, October 18th, 2016 from 2:15-3:15pm in the Riverside Media Center.
Katherine Firestone of the Fireborne Institute will be presenting on
"Executive Function in elementary school children - strategies to help you teach your children how to plan, organize and manage their time."
Don't miss this great lecture! Refreshments and snacks will be served.
|
