ear Parents,
Today I shared about the Riverside School and the district Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA)
and the Grade 5 CMT Science results at a parent meeting. The presentation can be found here. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Next Friday, as part of our school's continued theme of Innovation, we will reintroduce to students "Genius Hour". Genius Hour is a movement that allows students to explore their passions and interests and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn. The work is primarily student directed. For most classes, Genius Hour will be held every other Friday in the afternoon for an hour. You can see our goals and resources here.
Ms. McCullough and I look forward to seeing you at Back-to-School Night this Thursday. The times for specific grades and subjects are noted below.

Grade participated in writing workshops led by "Mr. D", is a Yale writing teacher. Using their five senses as a guide, the students wrote short stories about a memorable event in their life. They used dynamic and descriptive vocabulary to help the reader visualize their story. Mr. D used the same approach to teach students about expository and opinion writing. This program was sponsored by the Arts in Education Committee as a result of your generous contributions to the PTA.
