PREVENT LOOSE TRASH IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS WITH THESE TIPS
We all agree that littering is undesirable and has a negative impact on our neighborhoods. It is not always recognized that a significant source of litter is not always the result of someone who has tossed it about. Often times it comes from apathy about our own waste management practices. Much of the litter found in our neighborhoods comes from overflowing trash receptacles, bins or dumpsters that haven’t had the lid closed, or trash cans that are tipped over by the wind.

We’re already seeing the increased winds that come during this time of year. These winds carry loose trash that can end up in yards, along fences, in gutters, and in creeks and rivers.

We can help stop loose trash from invading our city by remembering this tips:

  • Always close dumpster and trash can lids
  • Bag your trash
  • Compact trash when necessary so lids will completely close
  • Hold overflowing trash back until the next pickup cycle
  • Only put trash cans out the morning of pickup (to avoid being blown over by heavy wind)
