ROAD AMERICA TO HOST "TOUGH MUDDER" EVENT 

IN 2014

 

 

 

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., Nov. 20, 2013 - One of the most intense endurance challenges is coming to Road America September 6 & 7, 2014. Tough Mudder, a 10- to 12-mile obstacle course challenge that involves diving into ice-cold water, crawling through mud and running through bursts of fire, will make a stop in Sheboygan County.
 
Road America will be invaded by thousands of runners who will be negotiating a course patterned after British Special Forces training methods. Runners will barrel through mud pits, army crawl under barbed wire and plunge into frigid ice water completing 10 to 12 miles of obstacles constructed across portions of the 640-acre facility.

 

"Unlike one of our popular motorsports weekends, Tough Mudder is more than an event; it's a way of thinking and a challenge intended to test all-around toughness," said programs manager, Mike Kertscher. "Of the 420-plus events we'll host at Road America in 2014, Tough Mudder will undoubtedly be one of the most unique."

 

With the built-in incentive to get in shape, the bragging rights that come with finishing - not to mention earning the coveted signature orange Tough Mudder headband and a free beer - the event provides participants with plenty of good reasons to step up to the challenge.

 

For between $69 and $185, anyone at least 18 years of age who is willing to sign a waiver can hurl themselves over walls, into the grip of 10,000 volts of electricity and through other challenges spread over the course.

 

The series included 53 events in the US, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Germany in 2013, and more than 60 events are planned for 2014 including the September event at Road America. More than one million participants worldwide have taken part in Tough Mudder events, raising more than $6.5 million for Wounded Warrior Project.

 

People are encouraged to form teams and start together. Road America is the first ever venue in South Eastern Wisconsin.
