Taste whiskey from around the world at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, relive the 1980s with Rock of Ages at Virginia Samford Theatre, run a 5K complete with chocolate stations, and witness breathtaking performances during the Alabama Dance Festival. Mandi Rae & The Status

Birmingham's Mandi Rae began singing as a child and playing guitar after high school. After that, she says, things just made sense. She has opened for the Avett Brothers and now enjoys playing with her band made up of eclectic songwriters. Check her out in our Magic City Mix.

Whiskeys of the World

Take a trip around the world of whiskey. The tasting begins in Scotland then moves through Ireland, Canada, America, and Japan. You'll taste each style and learn what makes them all distinct.

Rock of Ages
January 28-Feb. 21
Virginia Samford Theatre
 
Set in L.A.'s infamous Sunset Strip in 1987, this jukebox musical tells the story of Drew and Sherrie, both in L.A. to chase their dreams of making it big and falling in love. Audiences will be transported back in time with songs from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, and more.
 
 

ASO Winter Dreams Festival
January 29-30, 8 p.m.
Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center
 
An all-Russian 12-day festival kicks-off with Tchaikovsky's First Symphony, a work which laid the groundwork for a Russian symphonic tradition for many years to come. Prokofiev's lyrical Second Violin Concerto is also featured with Chinese virtuoso Angelo Xiang Yu.



Tribute Night: David Bowie

Alabama Ballet Pointe Ball

Enjoy an evening of dinner and dancing benefitting education and scholarship programs. Experience an intimate performance by Alabama Ballet's professional company members in the Ball Room followed by a gourmet dinner with amazing night views of Birmingham.

The Chocolate 5K

Hoover Metropolitan Stadium
 
Take part in a different kind of 5K with chocolate stations set up along a three-mile course. All chocolate is compliments of NR Road Racing and proceeds benefit the Autism Society of Alabama.
 

Jessica Lang Dance

Founded in 2011, Jessica Lang Dance is a New York City-based dance company dedicated to creating and performing the work of Jessica Lang and immersing audiences in movement and music. This performance is in partnership with the Alabama Dance Festival (see full schedule here).
 

Birmingham Feline Fanciers CFA Cat Show

It's time to walk the catwalk! The annual Cat Fanciers Association Cat Show benefits charities and humane societies. This year's show will include up to 225 pedigree cats and 50 household pets.
 

Polar Plunge for Special Olympics
January 30, 8 a.m.
Oak Mountain State Park Beach
 
Come out and take a plunge for Special Olympics and participate in a costume contest. The more money you raise, the cooler the swag you receive! Special Olympics Alabama is devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
