TRANSPORT WORKERS UNION LOCAL 100
ANNOUNCES
DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY ENDORSEMENT FOR
RODNEYSE BICHOTTE
New York, NY-- Today, the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 100 announced their support of District Leader/State Committeewoman Rodneyse Bichotte for Assembly in the 42nd District, which covers Flatbush, Midwood, and Ditmas Park in Brooklyn.
TWU Local 100 President John Samuelsen said, "On behalf of the TWU Local 100 membership, I am proud to announce our union's support of Rodneyse Bichotte. Rodneyse is an outstanding candidate who possesses progressive leadership skills, a wealth of experiences, and the balanced knowledge needed to serve our working-class communities in the State Legislature. Most importantly, she is dedicated to restoring transit cuts, fighting the fare hikes, and bringing about critical infrastructure and service improvements in our transit system."
"I am very pleased to receive the endorsement of the Transport Workers Union (TWU)," said Bichotte. "I was raised in a household of union workers, and have always advocated for their rights. Throughout my career in public service, I have advocated vigorously on behalf of the many residents of New York who work for New York City Transit, and keep our great city moving. The residents of Flatbush, Ditmas Park, and Midwood of the 42nd Assembly District rely heavily on mass transit to get their workplace. The
efficient and safe transportation of millions of New Yorkers and visitors is an essential element in sustaining our local and State economy. I am proud to advocate on behalf of the hard-working people in the transportation sector who make all this happen 365 days a year. That is why I will continue to fight against service cuts across the board, and I will strongly support the refurbishment of existing train stations and bus stops within my district. I will also continue to fight for the rights of unions to organize and demand fair wages, health and pension benefits."
"TWU is committed to supporting young, bold, progressive leaders who have been educating and empowering our own members in their communities," commented TWU Local 100 Secretary-Treasurer Earl Phillips. "We're looking for candidates who will not only support our issues, but who will champion the issues of public transit and workers' rights in Albany."
The Transport Workers Union Local 100 is the nation's largest transportation union, representing 38,000 active members employed by MTA New York City Transit and private bus companies in Queens and Westchester.

New York Communities for Change members were greatly impressed with Rodneyse Bichotte's grassroots campaign for district leader in 2010. Flatbush, East Flatbush, Ditmas Park, and Midwood needs a leader that is in touch with the lives of community members day in and day out and offers a fresh perspective. We believe that the key building a better New York is engaging the community from the grassroots and we believe that Rodneyse is the candidate they will do it.

PREFERRED CANDIDATE - RODNEYSE BICHOTTE -DEM
Occupation: Democratic District Leader
Education: SUNY Buffalo (BA); Illinois Institute of Technology (MA); Northwestern University (MBA)
Rodneyse Bichotte, the Democratic Leader in Brooklyn's 42nd Assembly District, was born and raised in the Flatbush community of Brooklyn . A product of Brooklyn public schools, she has worked as a public school math teacher, an engineer, and an investment banker. She supports the city public matching model for campaign finance reform at the state level, and second passage of the redistricting reform constitutional amendment. Bichotte stated that she could work with Citizens Union to reverse the low voter participation in her district. If elected, she promises to help the immigrant community by dealing with the pressing issues of housing, high unemployment, equal services, and to advocate for the DREAM Act. She plans to lower the high unemployment rate by giving tax benefits and incentives to small business owners, especially for job training programs and youth hiring. Bichotte believes that she fully understands the needs of her district and thus can bring about necessary change. She also says she wants to write legislation to benefit all New Yorkers, not just those in her district. Citizens Union prefers her, believing that the district needs new leadership and that she will bring fresh, new energy to the legislature and new ideas for addressing the pressing needs in her district. |
