Pond Mountain Inn Newsletter

The focus this week is on Woodstock, Vermont, Vermont General Stores other local events and Things to Do in our area during Foliage Season and another great recipe from Kay.
The Romance of the Vermont Road Trip...
Driving Woodstock's Ottauquechee River... take a spontaneous trip to the Green Mountains of Vermont. Exactly like nothing else.... When it comes to travel, prominent landmarks aren't always the impetus for a trip. For some, the destination is determined by the property thankfully we have both!
Spring Brook Farm Wins First Place!
The American Cheese Society awards Vermont’s Spring Brook Farm first-place “Best in Show” for its Tarentaise Reserve. Just 57 miles from the inn, consider attending their Annual Open House on Saturday, September 23 from 10AM to 3PM. The cheese making process begins at 9:00AM! We'll be there!

Combine your Vermont Foliage Road-Trip with the Vermont Cheese Trail.
We have a complete listing of all cheese producers in Vermont.
   Woodstock's F.H Gillingham General Store
All Our Guests Visit Juli & Tim at The Wells Country Store!
General Stores & Country Stores are ubiquitous in Vermont and deeply intertwined with everyday life here – and our town is no different. We pass five general stores each time we visit Manchester. All vastly different in character as are their roots, but their similarities are bound by community.

Each is incredibly interesting therefore never pass a Vermont General Store without stopping in… Click here to learn more about the five we see everyday!
A Truly Stunning View from the Simon Pearce Restaurant
Just beyond Woodstock is Quechee... We had a spectacular lunch here a few weeks back overlooking the falls is why this was voted one of “America’s Most Romantic Restaurants” by Travel and Leisure. And… there’s so much more! Downstairs there’s glassblowing and the hydro power plant that’s open to the public!

The Hydro Power Plant harnesses the natural energy of the falling water to produce the power that drives the glass furnaces Fascinating!
Internationally recognized, Simon Pearce is best known for exquisite hand-crafted glassware and hand-thrown pottery. Here, we watched glowing raw glass being transformed into necessary luxuries using centuries-old traditions by skilled artisans… watching for over an hour we were able to interact with several of the craftsmen and women.
A little farther east of Woodstock is The Quechee Gorge 165 feet deep and is the deepest gorge in Vermont. Easily seen crossing the bridge by car we chose to park and walk the span. And only 57 miles from the inn! Woodstock is a great day-trip...
A Quick Stop at Nan-Z's Hot Dog Stand in Manchester...
The best hot dogs in town... We grabbed a few dogs and headed to the Southern Vermont Art Center for the Fall Solo Shows Opening Reception last Saturday. It's a great show that continues through November 5.
Peru Fair… Saturday, September 23 is an old fashioned Vermont country fair with a fabulous Pig Roast! We went last year and was very well attended! Don't miss the J.J. Hapgood General Store at the fair's center, a must visit anytime of the year!
