Roof repairs kicks off Inventrek rebuild
Eleven semi loads of roof supplies arrive at Inventrek.

Interior work expected to begin in matter of weeks
Roofing materials were delivered by the semi load on Oct. 7 to the Inventrek Technology Park facility - 11 semi-trailers to be exact.

Their arrival marked the official beginning of the rebuilding process at the 700 E. Firmin St. facility. Crews had previously been focused on m itigation efforts, which begin immediately following the Aug. 24 tornadoes that hit the facility.

Rebuilding the roof structure is the first renovation project to begin and is expected to take four to six weeks to complete. It is currently 50 percent completed on the south portion of the roof. Once it's complete, work will begin on the interior of the facility. It will start on the west end of the second floor, which is where a majority of the incubator program's tenants were located.

Mike McCool, manager of economic development for the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance, says the renovation remains on target for completion in three to four months.
PokeMonday comes to a close
Pikachu appeared weekly during the event
and created excitement as he toured downtown Kokomo.

10-week event draws new visitors into downtown
For 10 weeks, Mondays in downtown Kokomo were known as PokeMondays. Starting on Aug. 22 and ending on Oct. 24, the Kokomo Downtown Association event drew locals and visitors alike to downtown Kokomo by playing off the popularity of the game Pokemon Go. With the  augmented reality game taking the nation by storm, the downtown association created a way to harness that excitement and attract a younger audience to downtown.

And it seems to have worked.  The Downtown Association posted video testimonials on social media of some who traveled to Kokomo to hunt for Pokemon during the weekly events.

Here's what one man had to say:  "We are from Sweetser, Indiana, and we have never in our lives been to downtown Kokomo. So thank you, Kokomo, for putting on this Poke event because it's doing what you hope that it does - drawing people to this great architecture and all that downtown Kokomo has to offer. So thank you very much, Kokomo."
Bicentennial Torch passes through

Howard County event draws a crowd
On Oct. 5, the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay passed through Howard County on its five-week tour of the state.

Torchbearers representing Howard County's past, present and future carried the torch as it passed significant landmarks and into downtown, where it was met with a closing ceremony.

Residents lined the street along the path to cheer on the torchbearers, and t he closing ceremony was attended by nearly
300 people. See photos from the event here.

In an effort to help prepare voters for the General Election coming
Tuesday, Nov. 8, the  Kokomo Perspective, Kokomo Tribune, Chamber of Commerce, and League of Women Voters hosted host two candidate forums
at Indiana University Kokomo for candidates in some local and state races.

The events were well-attended and had an even larger audience online
as the forums were broadcast by the local media and KGOV 2.
