Saint of the Week
A Saint is often an ordinary person who has lived an extraordinary life of virtue and faith. As Catholics we should use these exemplars to inspire us in our daily lives.
Saint Bede the Venerable (673 - 735)
St Bede was a Benedictine monk in England at St. Peter and St. Paul Monasteries. He was an author, teacher, historian and scholar. He wrote, the Ecclesiastical History of the English People, a number of Biblical commentaries and theological works. He also studied and calculated dates. He helped establish Anno Domini, "in the year of our Lord." He was one of the greatest teachers and writers of the Early Middle Ages and a scholar of antiquity. He translated early Greek and Roman Christian texts. Pope Leo XIII declared him a Doctor of the Church in 1899 .
